The Premier League's in-form team get back underway this afternoon, with Manchester United – who have won four of their last five top-flight games – taking on an aggrieved Everton side at Goodison Park.

While that recent domestic run would suggest that things are on the up for the Red Devils, the major caveat is both who the club have come up against and how they have actually performed of late, notably only scraping wins against the likes of Luton Town, Fulham and Sheffield United.

In fact, in every league win this season, United have only beaten their opponents by a one-goal margin, indicative of just how dismal a start to the campaign it has been for Erik ten Hag and his men.

The former Ajax boss would likely have been hoping for a smooth return to action following the recent international break, yet on the agenda are three gruelling away trips to Newcastle, Istanbul and Merseyside in succession.

The latter fixture has also been added some unwanted extra spice for the visitors following the ten-point deduction for Sean Dyche's men, ensuring it is set to be a hostile and raucous Goodison atmosphere.

Into the Lion's Den United go, with Ten Hag's task made all the more difficult amid some frustrating injury news in recent times.

Injuries have been the story of United's season so far, in truth, with Ten Hag having had to make do without a number of key figures of late, including the likes of Lisandro Martinez and Casemiro.

On a more positive note, long-term absentee Luke Shaw is in contention to feature later today having been absent since August, with the Englishman hoping to solve what has been a problem position at left-back.

The 13-time champions will also be hoping to have Rasmus Hojlund fit and available after the Dane was forced off against the Hatters two weeks ago, albeit with Ten Hag revealing that the 20-year-old is a doubt for the trip to Merseyside.

There was also some concern surrounding Andre Onana after the Cameroonian stopper sustained an injury while on international duty, yet the 27-year-old will be fit to feature, although one certain absentee is set to be Christian Eriksen, with the experienced playmaker having also been withdrawn early on against Rob Edwards' side prior to the international break.

Facing "some weeks" on the sidelines, according to his manager, Eriksen will pose yet another problem for Ten Hag in what has already been an unsettled midfield department, with it yet to be seen who will replace the 31-year-old in the centre of the park.

Possible replacements for Christian Eriksen

In all likelihood, Ten Hag will once again opt to select Bruno Fernandes and Scott McTominay as part of the midfield trio, with the latter man continuing his fine recent form after scoring for Scotland against Georgia last week – his seventh goal in Euro 2024 qualifying.

Just who will complete that midfield unit remains to be seen, however with summer signing Sofyan Amrabat, for instance, having yet to impress, notably being hooked at the break during the Manchester Derby defeat.

An obvious candidate for the role would have been Mason Mount – the man who replaced Eriksen against Luton – yet the former Chelsea gem is himself likely to miss the clash through injury and is facing his own stint on the treatment table.

Even if he was fit to feature, the one-time Derby County has hardly warranted a regular role in the side following a tough beginning at the Theatre of Dreams, failing to score or register an assist in the league.

With both Fernandes and now McTominay taking up advanced positions, the third member of the midfield will need to drop deep at times, something which may not come naturally to the more attack-minded Mount anyway, who frequently operated as a number ten or even on the flanks during his time at Stamford Bridge.

In need of a more suitable option to act as the deep-lying pivot in front of the back four, it could be time that Ten Hag finally looks the way of academy sensation, Kobbie Mainoo, with the 18-year-old having stepped up his return from injury in the youth ranks in recent weeks.

The reasons why Kobbie Mainoo should start against Everton

While yet to feature for the first team this season, Mainoo has been drip-fed minutes in the academy set-up in an attempt to get back to full fitness, notably featuring in both UEFA Youth League games against Copenhagen.

With three appearances also under his belt for England's U19 side over the past week or so – playing the full 90 against Mexico on Tuesday – the teenager will hopefully be ready to go in order to get his season properly underway in the senior ranks.

It had looked to be a real breakthrough campaign for the promising midfielder after he featured against the likes of Arsenal and Real Madrid in pre-season, although a cruel ankle injury while taking on the latter has put any excitement on hold.

With the likes of Eriksen and Casemiro out of the picture, however, now could be the opportunity for the "unreal" talent – as hailed by ex-teammate Anthony Elanga – to take on that defensive midfield berth, with Ten having previously stated that the youngster "is ready to take the (defensive) role".

Noted for having "similar attributes to Paul Pogba", Mainoo is seemingly a player who has everything in his locker to be a success at Old Trafford, as Elanga alluded to recently – in reference to Pogba:

"They are not the same player but just the way he moves and they can both do everything, defensive, offensive, he has a mixture of everything and is really good on and off the ball.”

Although throwing him into such a fiery contest against the Toffees may not be an ideal scenario, Mainoo does not look like one who will be fazed by the occasion, having been lauded for his "brave" showing against the Gunners during the summer by none other than club legend, Dennis Irwin.

Having made just three senior appearances to date last season, the Stockport native now appears deserving of a chance to add to that tally, starting with today's Goodison outing.

Já a vitima do caso de racismo teve o seu nome revelado. O advogado Cléber Pinto gravou um vídeo dizendo que recebeu pedido de desculpas formal pelo ocorrido e o aceitou. Na matéria, a ESPN revelou um áudio em que ele denuncia diretamente ao presidente Orlando Rollo uma injúria racial cometida pelo gerente de controladoria, Roberto Rabelato.

– Vim tratar de uma questão de injúria racial que ocorreu comigo, levei ao conhecimento do presidente e ao Comitê Gestor, no qual fui prontamente acolhido. Tive pedido de desculpas formal pelo ofensor, no qual eu aceitei esse pedido. A partir desse momento, dei o caso como encerrado, Nunca autorizei a gravação da minha fala em uma reunião que ocorreu. Houve uma deturpação daqueles fatos. Todavia, quero deixar bem claro que o Santos Futebol Clube tem como principio a igualdade entre as pessoas, seus funcionários, Não há, nesse sentido, da minha parte, nenhuma ressalva – disse Cleber, em trecho da gravação publicada pelo Santos.

A nota oficial aponta que Roberto pediu desligamento do Santos para melhor apuração dos fatos. O comunicado, inclusive, diz que na mesma reunião onde as falas do advogado foi gravada, o presidente Orlando Rollo acenou com a possibilidade de prisão em flagrante de Rabelato, mas o próprio ofendido optou por não levar o caso adiante.

Na última segunda-feira, os atletas passaram por testes RT-PCR e o meio-campista Otero testou positivo para Covid-19. O venezuelano está assintomático e se recuperando em sua casa sob a supervisão da equipe médica do clube. Ele deve desfalcar o time titular por cerca de quatro jogos.

Além dele, o Corinthians terá o desfalque do lateral-esquerdo Lucas Piton, que passará por uma cirurgia de hérnia inguinal nesta quarta-feira. Ele ficará afastado dos treinos de quatro a seis semanas. Piton e Otero se juntam a Ramiro como baixas no elenco. O volante está suspenso pelo terceiro amarelo.

Assim, os jogadores que devem ganhar as vagas na equipe titular são: Cantillo no lugar de Ramiro, e Mateus Vital no lugar de Otero, com possibilidade de Léo Natel pintar por ali. Por outro lado, Jemerson será mantido ao lado de Gil.

Big PictureBoth Test series between Bangladesh and West Indies this year panned out similarly, with the home team dominating. The ODI series, however, have been closer contests. After Bangladesh won the first ODI convincingly in Dhaka, West Indies bounced back with a tight win to level the series. The teams were in a similar situation in July this year, and it was Bangladesh who prevailed then, winning the final ODI to clinch the series 2-1. While hopes of an encore are alive for the hosts, the visitors, buoyed by the series-leveling win, would for their part hope to keep the trend of the away team winning the ODIs going.While West Indies were not entirely convincing in the second game, their first win on the tour sure was a much-needed boost. Shai Hope displayed guts to take them through in a difficult chase on a challenging pitch in Dhaka. He found little support at the other end but the starts that Darren Bravo and Marlon Samuels got are little things the visitors can build on.Like many of them, stand-in captain Rovman Powell too is due runs, particularly quick ones, if West Indies are to impose themselves on the Bangladesh bowlers. Keemo Paul batted well in the first two games but his batting position suggests that his contributions are at this stage seen as a bonus. Everton boasted the second-best defence in the bottom half of the Premier League heading into Sunday's clash against Manchester United at Goodison Park. However, as a result of three goals flying past Jordan Pickford, the Toffees have now fallen below Brentford's ranking and moved into third.

While Everton created a lot of chances during the game, ending the proceedings with an xG of 2.5, Sean Dyche's side gave the visitors plenty of opportunities to punish them on the break, conceding an xG of 2.07, according to Understat.

Two of United's three goals came from the wide areas, with one defender in particular struggling to keep up with the youthful vibrancy of the opposition's forward line.

Ashley Young's stats this season

Ashley Young has proven himself to be a reliable fullback under Dyche ever since making the move from Aston Villa during the summer transfer window for free. This season, the former Man United wide-man has made 12 appearances in the Premier League in a blue shirt, starting in 92% of Everton's games so far.

Nevertheless, the 38-year-old had a disastrous game against his old side on Sunday and played a helping hand in United's first two goals.

While Alejandro Garnacho stunned the Gwladys Street End with a stunning bicycle kick to open the scoring, the Argentine wonderkid was Young's man at the back-post but could only stand and watch in horror and awe as the ball sailed past Pickford and into the net. Later in the game, Young conceded a penalty which was smashed home by Marcus Rashford, all but putting the tie to bed.

Young lost five of his eight defensive duels throughout the match, lost possession of the ball nine times, committed three fouls in total and was lucky to stay on the park after tripping Anthony Martial in the box to concede a spot-kick, having been booked in the first half for a reckless challenge on Garnacho. The Liverpool Echo ranked Young's performance as a dismal 3/10, calling his display "awful".

With just over 15 minutes remaining, the veteran was replaced by the man who should be given the nod in the future.

Nathan Patterson's stats this season

Nathan Patterson moved to Goodison Park in 2022 during Rafa Benitez's time at the club for £16m having won a Scottish Premiership title with Rangers the year prior.

However, since becoming a Toffee, the young defender has appeared just 37 times in all competitions, including 15 this season. Despite making 12 Premier League appearances this term, the 22-year-old has only been in Dyche's starting lineup in 38% of Everton's games.

Regardless, the manager still believes that Patterson is an excellent player, calling him "tremendous" after Everton smashed Brighton and Hove Albion 5-1 away from home at the end of last season.

Patterson will be champing at the bit to make the right-back berth his own and, after Young's display on Sunday, he may just get the nod from the boss at Nottingham Forest this weekend. The Scotland international has even been outperforming Young in a number of key metrics for a fullback.

وعن مارك كاسادو، أشار: “لديه بعض أوجه التشابه مع كيميش (لاعب بايرن ميونخ)، في الموسم الماضي لعب العديد من المباريات مع الفريق الرديف، أعجبني، وما رأيته حتى الآن قام به بشكل جيد، كثيرًا ما تسمعني أقول إنني سعيد جدًا بالفريق، لاعبي برشلونة الشباب”.

وأصر: “أنا أركز دائمًا على ما أملك، على اللاعبين الذين أملكهم، لم أستطع التفكير في أشياء أخرى أو من يمكنه الحضور، الفريق يتمتع بالجودة ومع هذا الفريق سنحاول الفوز غدًا”.

وعن نيكو ويليامز لاعب أتلتيك بلباو والذي ارتبط بالانضمام لبرشلونة، علّق فليك: “لدينا لاعبين يتمتعون بخبرة كبيرة، ويمكن لكوندي مراقبته، لكن ليس من وظيفتي أن أتحدث عن لاعب من الفريق المنافس، سنركز على محاولة إيقافه وأنا متأكد من أن كوندي سيقدم أداء رائعًا فيما يتعلق بذلك”.

وبشأن لاعبه لامين يامال، أستطرد: “لقد لعب لامين في كأس أوروبا وصحيح أننا لعبنا معه منذ أسبوعين فقط، ما أراه في التدريبات أمر لا يصدق، من المهم بالنسبة لنا أن نمتلك سيطرة جيدة على الكرة وهو يساعدنا”.

كما سُئل عن لاعبه رافينها، وأجاب: “أفضل شيء عندما يكون لديك لاعب مثل رافينها في الفريق، لاعب يمكنه شغل عدة مراكز، لا أحب التحدث عن لاعب معين، أتحدث أكثر عن الفريق”.

وأتم: “رافينها يفعل دائمًا ما نتوقعه منه، في الشوط الثاني ركض كثيرًا لقد مارس ضغطًا عاليًا وكثف جهودنا وساعدنا على القيام بما كنا نبحث عنه (في المباراة الماضية أمام فالنسيا)”.

Postecoglou's lack of faith in Eric Dier has also resulted in the Australian turning to makeshift option Ben Davies, who is now partnering Cristian Romero at the heart of Tottenham's defence. The latter recently returned from a three-game suspension, but as evidenced by his needless lunge during Tottenham's 4-1 win over Newcastle last weekend, Romero can often be walking on a tightrope.

Lack of cover behind van de Ven and Romero is a big problem which chairman Daniel Levy and sporting director Johan Lange quite simply need to address. Tottenham are prioritising a new centre-back signing as a result, according to reliable media sources, and there have been many names linked.

Another very viable name to be mentioned in recent months is Club America defender Sebastian Caceres. The Uruguay international has really impressed under former Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa at international level, which has apparently prompted major interest from clubs in Europe.

Tottenham hold "open" agent talks for Caceres

One of those sides is Tottenham, as per widespread reports previously, and an update has now come to light courtesy of Tuttsport (via Sport Witness).

When relaying Serie A side Torino's interest in the 24-year-old, the outlet claims Spurs have "open discussions" with the agent of Caceres over joining Postecoglou's side.

Little else is mentioned beyond that, but if Spurs are serious about making a move, they may have to act fairly quickly. The report claims Napoli and Sevilla are also chasing Caceres, who is available for a bargain fee of around £6 million including bonuses.

That valuation is unquestionably great value for money, as highlighted by his growing reputation. Caceres has become a star for Uruguay in the last few months, with journalist Rodrigo Romano calling the South American an "untouchable" under Bielsa – as translated from Spanish.

Joe Clarke and Tom Kohler-Cadmore have been dropped from the England Lions squad that leaves for India on Saturday, after revelations about the pair’s off-field behaviour emerged in the course of the rape trial of their former Worcestershire team-mate, Alex Hepburn.Hepburn faces the prospect of a retrial after the jury at Worcester Crown Court failed to reach a majority verdict on Friday, following a five-day case which featured an alleged WhatsApp “sexual conquest game” among its central planks of evidence.In the course of the trial, it was alleged that Hepburn had raped an unnamed girl in April 2017, having entered Clarke’s bed while she was sleeping.It was heard that Clarke had already had consensual sex with the girl on the night in question, and having been arrested in the aftermath of the alleged incident, he was released without charge.Kohler-Cadmore, who was not present on the night in question, was not arrested. However, his first name appeared to be referenced during the prosecution’s examination of the WhatsApp messages, which included Hepburn’s posting of the “rules” of the game. It is understood that a number of other young Worcestershire players were also involved.In his summing-up of the case Judge Jim Tindal said: “It was effectively a competition – and I regret to use this word but it seems to be accurate – to ‘collect’ as many sexual conquests as possible.
