Chay atuou pelo Fut7 do Botafogo e também soma passagens pelo futebol da Malásia e da Tailândia. Na coletiva, ele falou sobre essa experiência e destacou que é um jogador de grupo,. De acordo com o atacante, ele ajudará a equipe da melhor maneira possível.

-Vai ajudar como vinha ajudando os outros grupos em que participei. Como falei, sou um jogador de grupo, gosto de estar ajudando da melhor forma possível, num bate papo, em uma conversa, ou ali dentro de campo em uma dura que tiver que dar. Então, a minha experiência vai ajudar nisso. E resultado, futebol é resultado, números e eu vim para somar com isso.

O Botafogo estreia na Série B do Brasileirão já nesta sexta-feira, no Estádio Onésio Brasileiro Alvarenga, às 21h30, diante do Vila Nova. O objetivo principal do Alvinegro é conquistar o acesso e retornar à elite do futebol nacional.

-Minha expectativa é a melhor possível, não tem como ser diferente, estou vestindo a camisa de um grande clube, é uma felicidade imensa. Vim preparado para esse desafio. A gente vai, com certeza, conseguir, o grupo está focado nisso. A minha experiência vai ajudar como a experiência de qualquer outro jogador que poderia passar por aqui. 30 anos de idade, já vivi muita coisa no futebol e queria dizer que podem contar que vai ser legal, bacana e eu vou agregar muito – disse Chay.

O QUE SENTIU DO ELENCO

– Um grupo muito bom, me receberam muito bem, dos dias que estou aqui, foram boas conversas, boas risadas. É um grupo que está concentrado no foco, que é o acesso à Série A. Nós temos essa responsabilidade de estar aí, porque o Botafogo é gigante e nós temos que conseguir. O grupo é excelente, não tem o que se falar, trabalha bastante, está de parabéns. Vamos continuar nesse processo para conseguir o acesso.

CAMPANHA NA PORTUGUESA

– Acho que posso ajudar com o que já vem sendo feito, eu sou um jogador que gosta de estar fazendo gols, de ser muito incisivo, estar sempre atacando e criando. Então, a minha boa campanha tem que continuar como estava vindo com a Portuguesa e poder agregar no grupo do Botafogo, agora.

RECOMPOSIÇÃO

– Estou preparado para fazer o que o Chamusca pedir. Minha parte física esta excelente, os dias que eu tive aqui de trabalho foram muito bons. Eu tinha uma liberdade muito grande ali, quando estava jogando com a Portuguesa, de ter bons jogadores ali que podiam dar uma certa movimentação e podiam me cobrir. Mas eu estou preparado para o que o professor pedir, não tem essa, precisamos estar preparados para suprir tudo o que o treinador pede.

ONDE GOSTA DE JOGAR

-Ali no último terço do campo, eu tenho facilidade em jogar em vários setores do campo, mas, por questão de preferência, como eu venho jogando ultimamente ali pelo lado esquerdo do campo e como meia também, quando era necessário. Então, são as duas posições que eu tenho mais facilidade em jogar, mas posso atuar no último terço do campo em qualquer posição.

IMPORTÂNCIA DO FUT7 PARA A CARREIRA

-É uma questão de adaptação, eu mudei de modalidade já faz três anos. Hoje, eu sou um jogador de futebol de campo, me dedico totalmente a isso, tenho um carinho pelo esporte que é o Futebol de 7, mas sou totalmente dedicado a futebol de campo.

– Me ajudou muito, trago bastante das qualidades que eu adquiri jogando fut7, me ajuda muito no futebol de campo, porque, hoje, eu conduzo mais a bola próximo ao meu corpo, tenho melhor noção de espaço, isso me ajuda muito.

Celtic brought manager Brendan Rodgers back to Glasgow last summer after Australian head coach Ange Postecoglou decided to make a move down south.

The now-Spurs boss enjoyed a terrific two years in Scotland and was particularly successful in the transfer market with several fantastic additions, including the likes of Jota, Kyogo Furuhashi, Joe Hart, and Cameron Carter-Vickers.

One of his last signings in charge of the Hoops, during the January transfer window at the start of last year, was right-back Alistair Johnston from MLS side CF Montreal.

Postecoglou struck gold by bringing the Canadian to Parkhead, as his value has since soared alongside his excellent front-footed displays for the club.

The Daily Record reported that Celtic splashed out a fee of £3m to sign the talented defender after his impressive performances in North America throughout 2022.

Johnston made 35 appearances in the MLS in the 2022 campaign and caught the eye with four goals and four assists from right-back, which shows that he provided an attacking threat from that position.

The Canada international also won 50% of his defensive duels during that period, as he stood up to the physical test of the division, and the Hoops then swooped to secure his signature midway through their season.

He hit the ground running in the Scottish Premiership, as you can see in the table above, with an impressive return of five 'big chances' created in just 14 matches to help the team win the title.

Alistair Johnston's current market value

At the time of writing (26/03/2024), Johnston is valued at €8m (£6.8m) by Transfermarkt and this shows that Postecoglou and Celtic hit the jackpot with him, as his value has soared and his performances on the pitch have been, largely, superb.

The 25-year-old whiz has created eight 'big chances' and registered two assists in 25 Premiership matches for the Hoops so far this season, which means that he has racked up 15 'big chances' created in just 39 league games for the club.

Former Hoops man Steve Guppy, who worked with Johnston at Nashville in the MLS, heaped praise on the full-back's outstanding ability to cross the ball.

He claimed that the right-back's style and technique when it came to passing and crossing the ball was "reminiscent of Trent Alexander-Arnold’s at Liverpool", and went on to say that he was "excited" to see the defender play for Celtic due to that quality.

Johnston has recorded two assists in his last four Premiership matches for the Hoops and both of those were crosses to Adam Idah, who converted one with his left foot and one with his head.

That is incredibly high praise when you consider that the England international recently broke the Premier League record for assists by defenders, with the 58th of his career so far – by the age of just 25.

At 25, the Celtic star still has plenty of time left ahead of him to develop and improve over the years to come. For now, though, it is hard to deny that he has been a terrific signing by Postecoglou, with his soaring value and Trent-like crosses in the Premiership.

Daniel Farke himself explained the problem that the Championship side face after their late 3-1 win over Hull City on Monday: "First of all if Ilia is not available, we are missing a really good midfield option. Ilia is important for our rhythm, sometimes to calm the game down, sometimes to speed it up, really tidy on the ball, shows himself, wants to have the ball under pressure and helps to build against really good pressing side.

"Obviously Charlie Crew plays in a similar role, perhaps a bit more offensive but due to his age he can’t fulfil the role Ilia has done. We see him as a high potential young player, there’s a long way to go, you can’t take it for granted a 17 year old plays day in day out like Archie. It would be unfair to put the same weight of expectations on Charlie Crew’s shoulders."

There is also the possibility that the club lose the services of Gray ahead of the new campaign, with the talented youngster having been linked with a move to a bigger side in recent months. Clearly then, midfield will be a priority for Farke this summer.

Leeds keen on free agent; two conditions needed to join

Now, sources in Portugal [via Sport Witness] claim that Leeds are one of several sides keeping tabs on FC Vizela midfielder Samu, with reports that the midfielder has wowed scouts with his 'fitness records' thanks to the fact that he covers roughly 13km per game in the Portuguese top flight.

Though he has only managed four goals and two assists, the Vizela skipper could finally be set to leave Portugal, where he has spent his entire career to date. The 27-year-old is out of contract this summer as things stand and is reportedly ready to leave his current club if they are to be relegated which, two points adrift of a relegation play off and five points away from complete safety as things stands, looks more likely than not.

Leeds are not alone in their admiration though, with fellow Championship side Southampton also thought to be tracking the Portuguese youth international. However, neither side will be likely to secure him, it is added, unless they can offer Premier League football, something that at present Farke's side appear more likely to be able to do.

Should he arrive, he could provide a much-needed rotation option in the heart of the Elland Road engine room.

Glasgow Rangers came back from the brink not once, but twice, to avoid defeat in the third Old Firm clash of the season at Ibrox on Sunday.

The first-half performance was as dismal a display that the Ibrox faithful have been witness to this term, offering absolutely nothing going forward, while looking shaky defensively.

Whatever Philippe Clement said at half-time clearly had the desired effect. Fabio Silva won a penalty which James Tavernier converted to make it 2-1, before Cyriel Dessers had a goal disallowed somewhat controversially.

Abdallah Sima did make it 2-2 with five minutes to go, yet Celtic went straight up the other end of the pitch and restored their advantage.

Enter Rabbi Matondo. The Welsh winger replicated his stunning strike against Hibs last weekend, but to a much greater magnitude, and it was worthy of winning any game, never mind securing a share of the spoils.

It was perhaps a missed opportunity, but considering how bad Rangers were in the first half, a point isn’t bad.

Several members of the starting XI delivered abysmal performances, however, most notably Scott Wright, who it was a surprise to see actually start the match.

The Scot had started only six Premiership matches prior to the Old Firm clash over the weekend. Considering Clement had Dujon Sterling, Ross McCausland, and a returning Sima ready to be deployed on the right wing, the decision was rather strange.

The former Aberdeen player had played just 20 minutes against Celtic this season, further evidence of his inclusion being peculiar, but Clement had obviously seen enough in training to warrant giving him a start.

Wright looked off the pace from the very first whistle, failing to contribute anything meaningful going forward as he and Tavernier struggled down the right flank, as you can see from the table below.

The occasion clearly got to the winger as he completed just eight passes during the first half, taking 18 touches and losing possession four times.

In terms of providing Dessers with some service, Wright failed to deliver a single cross or attempt a dribble, while failing even to make a key pass throughout a dismal opening 45 minutes.

It was perhaps no surprise that he was hooked at half-time by Clement, with the manager unleashing Sima, who had a much greater impact.

This was the third occasion since the end of January that Wright had started a league match, before being subbed at half-time. It is clear he cant be trusted in games of this magnitude and with a title to fight for, he shouldn’t be in a Rangers' jersey again.

The 26-year-old was even given a dismal match rating of just 4/10 for his display in the match by the Scottish Sun, who said Greg Taylor ‘dealt with him comfortably’ throughout the first half.

It's fair to say Wright hasn’t had the desired impact since failing to secure a move to Turkish side Pendikspor last summer as he looked to fight for his place in the side under Michael Beale.

Since then, Wright has made a total of 28 appearances (18 from the bench) while scoring just two goals and registering zero assists, hardly the form of a player who deserves a start in the most important Old Firm clash in years.

When compared to his teammates, Wright currently ranks in a lowly 17th spot for shots per game (0.9) in the top flight, along with ranking 22nd for big chances created (one), 18th for key passes per game (0.6) and 16th for successful dribbles per game (0.4).

These are poor numbers across metrics which a winger should be excelling at, but Wright has been ordinary, not just this campaign, but his whole spell at the Ibrox side.

With seven Premiership games to go, plus a Scottish Cup semi-final clash (and potential final), every game is now a must-win if they are to win the league title this season.

Clement must make better choices with regard to who starts matches and, given his options on the wing are much better than they were due to injuries, Wright must be dropped for the subsequent games.

The players who can replace Scott Wright

McCausland is the obvious choice given how much he has played this season. Since making his first appearance of the 2023/24 campaign against Aris Limassol in October, the Northern Irishman has featured 30 times for the Light Blues, scoring twice and grabbing three assists in the process.

The youngster has also registered more successful dribbles per match (0.8) and more key passes per game (1.5) than Wright, showcasing how impressive he has been since becoming a first-team regular under Clement.

While Sima has been typically deployed on the left wing this season, could he be an option on the right-hand side of the attack?

Matondo deserves some more game time after his heroics against Celtic, which could see him given a start against Dundee on Wednesday. Sima also had a wonderful impact when coming off the bench and certainly has earned a first start since recovering from his hamstring injury.

The on-loan Brighton and Hove Albion starlet has already scored 16 goals during his time at the club, offering a dangerous threat from the wide areas.

A wide duo of Matondo and Sima, combined with Dessers leading the line, could cause Dundee all sorts of problems, although they could be stifled by having to play on what resembles an Olympic swimming pool, judging by the state of their pitch.

At this stage of the season, performances simply don’t matter, securing three points is the main thing. Clement would quite happily see his side win the remaining seven games 1-0 if they were to go on and win the league title.

The Belgian will have found out a lot about his team following the 3-3 draw against Celtic. Starting Wright in any of the remaining fixtures shouldn’t even be considered, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him depart Ibrox in the summer.
