20 Keith Andrews (Brentford) Annual wage: £1.3m per year

Beginning the countdown is Keith Andrews, who took up his first senior managerial role with Brentford ahead of the 2025/26 season and is on £1.3m per year as Bees boss.

Previously a set-piece coach under Thomas Frank, Andrews made the step up to manager after Frank left for Spurs and signed a three-year deal.

19 Fabian Hurzeler (Brighton) Annual wage: £1.5m per year

Fabian Hurzeler became the youngest permanent head coach in Premier League history in 2024 when he took over at Brighton from German side St Pauli in 2024.

Aged just 31 at the time, Hurzeler has impressed on the south coast and picks up a salary of £1.5m per season. His current deal runs until 2027.

18 Andoni Iraola (Bournemouth) Annual wage: £1.5m per year

Andoni Iraola has been doing a brilliant job at Bournemouth since joining from Rayo Vallecano, however, he is thought to be one of the lowest paid managers in the division.

Iraola had been making £1m per season under his initial two-year deal with the Cherries and is now thought to be on £1.5m per year.

17 Rob Edwards (Wolves) Annual wage: £1.5m per year

Wolves had to pay Middlesbrough around £3m in compensation to appoint Rob Edwards in November, with the Old Gold handing their former defender a deal until 2029 at Molineux.

Edwards’ previous Premier League experience as a manager came with Luton Town, and he’s the final boss thought to be on £1.5m per season.

16 Scott Parker (Burnley) Annual wage: £1.6m per year

After winning promotion with Burnley in 2025, Scott Parker picks up a reported £1.6m per season at Turf Moor.

The Clarets had an unbelievable defensive record in 2024/25 under the former Tottenham and West Ham midfielder, who is under contract with Burnley until 2027.

15 Regis Le Bris (Sunderland) Annual wage: £2m per year

Regis Le Bris guided Sunderland back to the Premier League in his first season at the Stadium of Light, and his Black Cats deal is worth £2m per season.

Sunderland splashed the cash in the transfer market on new signings ahead of their top flight return, and Le Bris’ salary also increased after their playoff victory at Wembley.

14 Daniel Farke (Leeds) Annual wage: £2m per year

Daniel Farke won his third Championship title in 2025, this time with Leeds United. The Whites picked up 100 points in the second tier, with Farke also previosuly guiding the club to Wembley in 2024.

The German is under contract at Elland Road until 2027.

13 Sean Dyche (Nottingham Forest) Annual wage: £3.9m per year

After a turbulent start to the 2025/26 season, Sean Dyche was appointed as manager of a club where he spent some of his academy days. Both Nuno Santo and Ange Postecoglou lost their jobs, leading to the former Everton boss being handed the reins and being given a lovely £3.9m a year salary in the process.

Expect more defensive football than the heavy-metal mess supporters got under Postecoglou.

12 Marco Silva (Fulham) Annual wage: £4m per year

Marco Silva

Marco Silva has helped establish Fulham as a stable Premier League outfit since securing the Championship title and achieving promotion, further solidifying his position in the eyes of owner Shahid Khan.

Since taking charge at Craven Cottage in 2021, the former Everton boss has worked wonders, earning a substantial £4m salary along with an annual bonus of £500,000.

11 Oliver Glasner (Crystal Palace) Annual wage: £4m per year

Oliver Glasner was appointed as Crystal Palace boss on a deal until 2026 and has been earning a salary totalling around £4m a year.

The 2022 Europa League winner has had a promising start to his career at Selhurst Park, with the Eagles steering well clear of relegation bother in his first half-season before famously lifting the FA Cup in 2025.

The way Glasner’s going, this is just the beginning for him in south London.

Harmanpreet: India hoping to 'pass that benchmark' in time for ODI World Cup

“Whenever we needed a breakthrough, she was there for the team,” Harmanpreet Kaur says of Kranti Goud, whose six-wicket haul helped India defend 318 in the deciding ODI against England

Ten balls had gone – and Harmanpreet Kaur was counting – before she scored her first run, the first of 102 that would set the platform for India’s series-clinching victory against England and lay down a marker ahead of the home ODI World Cup.On the 11th ball she faced at Chester-le-Street in the third and final ODI, Harmanpreet found the boundary with a gorgeous cover drive off left-arm spinner Linsey Smith and, while it was slow-going at first, she was on her way.Harmanpreet’s century was her seventh in ODIs but her first score above 50 in the format in 13 innings. Since scoring 54 in the 50-over warm-up match against an ECB Development XI at the start of the tour, her best score in either of the white-ball series against England had been 26 in the fourth T20I.Related

“In all the matches I wanted to give my best in batting but today’s game was very important to us,” she said. “The plan was to spend some time on the wicket and then see how things go. That really worked for me.”The first [ten] balls, I didn’t get any runs but then I was just talking to myself: ‘I’m not going to lose myself, just be there, be there for the team’.”By reaching a hundred in 82 deliveries, Harmanpreet surpassed her 87-ball effort against South Africa last year as the second-fastest for her country in women’s ODIs after Smriti Mandhana’s century off 70 balls against Ireland earlier this year. She also became the third India player to pass 4000 runs in women’s ODIs in the process. Also satisfying for India was their all-round batting performance, which also included 50 for Jemimah Rodrigues, who put on 110 runs for the fourth wicket with Harmanpreet, 45 each for Mandhana and Harleen Deol, and an 18-ball 38 from Richa Ghosh.Kranti Goud struck twice in the first powerplay on her way to a six-wicket haul•PA Photos/Getty Images

Then Kranti Goud, the 21-year-old seamer playing her fifth match for India, took 6 for 52 as England were bowled out for 305 with one ball remaining, 13 runs shy of achieving a world-record run-chase. Goud became the second-youngest India player behind Deepti Sharma to take a five-wicket haul in women’s ODIs.”She’s been really impressing whenever she was on the field and bowling for the team,” Harmanpreet said of Goud. “I’m really happy the kind of bowling she did today and whenever we needed a breakthrough, she was there for the team.”India’s 318 for 5 was the second-highest ODI score by a visiting team in England after their 333 for 5 in Canterbury in 2022. It was also the fifth time India had scored 300 or more in ODIs this year.Tuesday’s narrow winning margin belied India’s dominance in the match, although allowing England to go from 8 for 2 to 170 for 2 as Nat Sciver-Brunt and Emma Lamb added 162 runs together will act as a reminder that the World Cup hosts cannot give any ground to their opponents.India can expect a sterner test from reigning champions Australia, whom they will play in a three-match ODI series immediately before the World Cup. But Harmanpreet said her team would take confidence from their tour of England, which also included a 3-2 victory in the T20I series. There will be sterner tests ahead, but India can celebrate the double in England for the moment•Getty Images

“Today was a totally different situation and different pitch, different atmosphere, in home conditions it will be different,” she said. “But whenever you win, that can always give you a positive mindset and keep you in a good place.”This series definitely will give us a lot of confidence but, again, when we go back, we have to start again from ball one.”She was also pleased that her team were hitting good form at the right time.”Our team has been really working hard for so many years and this is the time where we are getting that [reward],” she said. “We only talk about playing good cricket and we know the kind of talent we have in our side. It’s only about using the right talent at right time and getting the best out of them.”I’m really happy. All the girls, they’re coming up with a positive mindset and working really hard on their fitness. We have understood a lot of things in the past few years and right now we’re just trying to pass that benchmark and set ourselves into that position where people can talk about women’s cricket. People can take a women’s cricket really seriously back home because we all know how much people love cricket back home, and they also want us to do well.”

Bavuma: 'We're not close to where we want to be as a team'

“You’re seeing new faces in the team and that’s all part of us being in that exploration phase,” says South Africa’s captain

Firdose Moonda24-Aug-20253:58

Bavuma: We didn’t recover as a bowling unit and as a team

South Africa’s ODI squad is “quite far,” from where they want to be at the home World Cup in 2027 but have time to get there, according to captain Temba Bavuma.Despite completing a fifth successive bilateral series win over Australia, South Africa lost the final game by a record margin and still see themselves as a squad in transition.”You’re seeing new faces in the team and that’s all part of us being in that exploration phase,” Bavuma said after the third ODI in Mackay. “We’re getting to understand guys, what roles that they can fulfil within the team and what they bring in from a personality point of view. We have time. There’s two years left and we’re definitely not close to where we want to be as a team.”Related

Though South Africa only handed out two new caps in the Australia ODIs – to Dewald Brevis and Prenelan Subrayen – they also tried a new opening batting combination in Aiden Markram and Ryan Rickelton, moved Bavuma to No.3, had four different batters in three middle-order roles and played with their combination of allrounders and specialist bowlers with varying degrees of success.Markram and Rickelton put on a highest stand of 92 in three matches, but their other two scores were 2 and 11 and both are struggling with their play outside offstump. Bavuma played two of the three games with one score over fifty but a strike rate under 90, which could be cause for concern. In the middle-order, Matthew Breetzke was the standout performer, with two quick half-centuries in two matches before he missed the third with a hamstring concern. Tony de Zorzi looked good, especially off the back foot but gave his wicket away too easily. Similarly, Brevis, who became the holder of South Africa’s highest score in T20Is, holed out in all three innings in the ODIs. Still, Brevis is largely regarded as the cream of that crop and Bavuma and the team are enjoying his talent as much as the rest of us.”It’s refreshing watching him kind of go about his business. He’s not fazed by anything. What’s also quite refreshing is seeing his reaction when he does go out. For him, it’s all about, he should have hit the ball harder. Maybe the more experienced guys will be thinking, was that a good decision or not? But there’s an exuberance of youth from him,” Bavuma said. “The longer he plays, the more he’ll start getting a little bit more batsmanship in his game, especially in the longer formats. For now, it’s entertaining for not just the fans, but for us within the team as well.”From a bowling perspective, South Africa had obvious match-winners in the two games they won. Keshav Maharaj made his case about his value in white-ball cricket with a first ODI five-for and a series economy rate of 4.64 while Lungi Ngidi showed his seniority in a crafty display of variation in game two. The jury might still be out on which of Corbin Bosch and Wiaan Mulder could be edging ahead, especially as they will be competing for a spot with Marco Jansen and while Nandre Burger showed what he can do, Kwena Maphaka’s only game in the series was a baptism of fire. All these are building blocks which Bavuma sees as markers of what the full construction could look like, when South Africa play to their potential. “As much as we won the series, we felt that we weren’t anywhere near our best. So I guess that’s exciting as well, to see us when we start playing close to 100%,” he said. They have their first opportunity to improve in just over a week when they begin a three-match series against England, where Bavuma expects, “a lot more balls to go flying,” and South Africa to keep developing their skills in different conditions. While Cairns and Mackay both heavily suited the team batting first as the ball moved significantly under lights, the way South Africa adapted to the surfaces was the most pleasing thing about the trip for Bavuma.”That we can win away from home – that’s a big thing,” he said. “In terms of what we’re trying to build and achieve as a team, we want to keep building on that winning habit, in whatever format it is. We want every opportunity to keep our standard up, from a skill point of view.”He acknowledged South Africa were severely lacking in the third game, where the bowlers conceded 431 runs and lacked the problem-solving ability that could have limited the damage. “From a control point of view, that definitely wasn’t there. When they put us under pressure, we weren’t able to come up with any type of solution. It is a learning curve, not just for the younger guys, but for even the batters. It’s not every day where you get to where you’re chasing 432. So to be able to come up with some type of formula, that’s something that we kind of need to get to terms with.”

Man Utd have a "beast" in the academy who's another Casemiro in the making

When Ruben Amorim stood and spoke to a disgruntled Old Trafford arena at the end of the 2024/25 campaign, he promised things would improve at Manchester United.

They had to, right? A 15th-place Premier League finish and defeat in the Europa League final had put a cold dampener on any optimism that might have been eked from Erik ten Hag’s dismissal only in October 2024.

But things are improving. Three wins (including the victory at Anfield) and a draw in the top flight have renewed United’s hopes of getting a foot back through the European door. There’s a long way to go, but many players are standing up where they languished before.

The summer recruits have been impactful, but one of the most intriguing stories of the season is the resurgence of Casemiro.

Casemiro is revived in midfield

Man United probably haven’t received bang for their buck since signing Casemiro from Real Madrid for a fee in excess of £70m in 2022.

The 33-year-old has ebbed and flowed, ebbed and flowed, and the brunt of Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher’s infamous monologue toward the end of the 2023/24 campaign.

But he’s been increasingly influential under Amorim’s wing, with reporter Alex Turk even going as far as to call him “the soul of this team”. He is playing like he’s regained a few years, having won 58% of his duels and averaged two tackles per game (as per Sofascore).

Partly, this is because Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo are such mobile and athletic forwards. They will drop into deeper areas and connect with their midfielders, thus limiting the amount of ground the Brazilian veteran needs to cover each game.

Casemiro is becoming undroppable in the engine room, but he pockets a staggering £350k-per-week salary and is out of a deal at the end of the campaign, albeit with an option to extend for a further year.

Sourcing a replacement will not be easy, but Carrington graduate Kobbie Mainoo would fancy his chances, even having played such a paucity of football under the Portuguese tactician’s management.

There may, however, be another academy star looking to wedge his way into the senior set-up.

Man Utd's next Casemiro

Manchester United have long boasted one of the richest and most impressive academy systems in world football. And with Marcus Rashford having divorced from the Theatre of Dreams, it might be that a new homegrown hero is needed to add a dimension to Amorim’s reign.

Well, that player could come in the form of U21 starlet Sekou Kone, who, aged 19, has been enjoying himself in Darren Fletcher’s set-up after leaving Malian side Guidars FC for around £1m plus add-ons in 2024.

The robust, rangy midfielder has not featured this season after a horrific collision suffered against Tamworth in August, but he made 14 appearances for the U21s last term and produced some stunning performances, with scout Antonio Mango even claiming he has the skillset to become “a beast under Amorim”.

Aggressive and powerful, analyst Ben Mattinson has noted that Kone is “uber composed on the ball and so press resistant.” Furthermore, it has been said that he has a tireless engine and a range of skills that could see him play that Casemiro-esque role down the line. Elements of this can be traced back to last season, when he shone for the youth side during a 4-1 loss against Huddersfield.

During that heavy EFL Trophy defeat, he only played 42 minutes before picking up an injury, but made a real impression all the same.

It’s important to note that Kone has weathered his share of adversity at this early-career stage. He has the minerals to succeed at a great club like the Red Devils, and he has bags of talent besides.

Casemiro may extend his stay at Old Trafford for another year, but he’s getting old and will only last for so long.

15-year-old forward JJ Gabriel has been included in a number of first-team training sessions this season, and Amorim is willing to welcome up-and-coming talents up to the senior fold if he feels they have the right skillset to make a difference.

Kone certainly does at that, and if he manages to find form and fluency over the coming months, there’s every chance that the boss could view him as a left-field option to help fill Casemiro’s big boots.

Carrington's "best talent" is a big Sesko upgrade in the making at Man Utd

Manchester United could yet improve further in attack under Amorim’s wing.
