Man Utd fans fuming as plans for new left-back reportedly cancelled

Whilst the majority of the transfer talk surrounding Manchester United has revolved around potential striker targets, it appears the Red Devils also had plans to reinforce their options in defence. The Times have claimed that the Red Devils were scouring the market for a new left-back, with Leicester ace Ben Chilwell amongst a number of players who were being considered for the role. However, it has now been suggested that following the rapid rise of Brandon Williams – the academy product netted in the thrilling 3-3 draw with Sheffield United last weekend – the club have shelved plans to sign a player in that position. After hearing the transfer report, United fans took to Twitter to reveal their frustrations with the news.[ad_pod ]Many supporters of the Manchester side insisted that this is a major oversight on the part of their club, with one fan in particular claiming that cancelling long-term plans based on a couple of impressive performances is “typical clown stuff”.Check out some of the reaction of United fans below:

Liverpool fans slam their ticketing system

It must be pretty great behind a Liverpool fan right now.

They are the current European champions, after two finals in a row in the tournament. Not only that, they top the Premier League by eight points from Leicester City and Chelsea, whilst Manchester City, the current holders, are a further point back and currently sit in fourth place.

As such, a place at Anfield to watch the Reds in action is amongst the hottest tickets in town. The Merseyside outfit are currently planning an extension to the current stadium, and are even said to be consulting both fans and local residents to get their thoughts on the future renovation.

However, it seems they may want to look at sorting out the club’s ticketing system, which is the cause of much debate amongst the team’s supporters.

Leeds fans were buzzing last time they were linked with David Stockdale

Leeds United have been linked with a move for David Stockdale in January (The People 17/11 Via Leeds Live) as they face the prospect of losing Kiko Casilla to a lengthy suspension after the Spaniard has been charged with racially abusing Jonathan Leko earlier this season.

This isn’t the first time Leeds have been linked with a move for the stopper as they apparently looked to sign him back in 2017.

A couple of years ago Stockdale was fresh off of a promotion campaign with Brighton, and Leeds fans were buzzing at the prospect of signing him.

There hasn’t been too much fanfare about the prospect of signing the Birmingham City stopper in January, but reactions of fans back in 2017 show just how highly-rated Stockdale was before his ill-fated move to St Andrew’s, and if he rediscovers that form he will be a fantastic signing.

Liverpool fans react as Fabinho named Man of the Match vs Manchester City

Some Liverpool fans have been reacting on social media after the Reds shared that Fabinho had been chosen as the supporters’ Man of the Match against Manchester City.

The Brazilian was elected as the Reds’ Man of the Match after earning 66% of the votes in a poll carried out on Liverpool’s official Twitter account, beating the likes of Georginio Wijnaldum (13%), Trent Alexander-Arnold (12%) and Sadio Mane (9%).

Fans have been lauding Fabinho for his performance against Manchester City, in which he demonstrated himself as the “best defensive midfielder in world football”, in the eyes of one supporter.

Others suggested he was “absolutely immense” versus the reigning Premier League champions, who Fabinho opened the scoring against in the sixth minute when he blasted the ball home from 25 yards out.

Fabinho struck the ball as sweetly as he could after Ilkay Gundogan’s clearance could only find the 26-year-old, who took one touch before lashing his strike home beyond Claudio Bravo.

The £100,000-per-week anchorman coupled his goal with a further shot but failed to direct his effort on target, as he played 36 passes, made one accurate long ball, and completed one dribble, per data collected by WhoScored.

Campinas-born Fabinho also recorded a joint-game-high two interceptions while winning one tackle.

Here are some of the messages shared as supporters reacted to the news that Fabinho had won the fans’ vote on who should be named as the Man of the Match from Sunday’s 3-1 win over Manchester City…

Wolves: Fans react angrily to VAR statistic

A study by bettingexpert [via Express & Star] revealed that Wolves have lost more points because of decisions overturned by VAR than any other club in the Premier League this season.

The study showed that Nuno Espirito Santo’s team would have an additional four points so far this term if every decision originally made by on-field referees had stood, a four-point swing that would have them in sixth place instead of their current position of 12th.

Joe Edwards, Wolves correspondent for the Express & Star, shared the intriguing statistic on Twitter via his profile @JoeEdwards_Star.

Wolves have twice been denied victories in the Premier League this season by VAR-disallowed goals. On the opening weekend, Leander Dendoncker’s goal in the 0-0 draw at Leicester was ruled out by VAR official Jon Moss, who deemed the ball to have struck Willy Boly’s arm in the build-up. [via Sky Sports]

Last month, Raul Jimenez had two first-half goals against Southampton disallowed after VAR reviews in a match that ended 1-1, with one chalked off for handball and the other ruled out due to Patrick Cutrone being a fraction offside in the build-up. [via Sky Sports]

These Wolves fans on Twitter were left seething after Edwards’ tweet about the impact of VAR on their season so far:

Leeds fans fear Tyler Roberts injury on international duty

Leeds United revealed on Tuesday afternoon that Tyler Roberts had been called up the Wales squad for their upcoming Euro 2020 qualifiers with Azerbaijan and Hungary.

However, it would be fair to say that the club’s supporters are not overly pleased about it as they are fearful that the attacker could pick up an injury.

The 20-year-old, who has been capped on six occasions by the Welsh national team, scored his first Leeds goal of the season against Queens Park Rangers at the weekend.

Indeed, on his first start for the Whites this term, Roberts scored Leeds’ opener just before the interval before Jack Harrison made it 2-0 in the second period.

Wales are currently fourth in Group E on eight points, four points off second-placed Hungary and six points off leaders Croatia.

It is a huge couple of games for Ryan Giggs’ side, but the Leeds fans are only concerned about the fitness of their young attacker.

Leeds must exercise their option to buy if Noel Whelan’s prediction rings true

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Pundit View series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent quotes from journalists, pundits, players and managers…

Jack Harrison has been in scintillating form as of late.

Indeed, the winger has assisted four goals in his last five appearances for Leeds United as the Whites have continued to mount their assault on the top two.

The Manchester City loanee has shown a marked improvement since his first spell with the Elland Road outfit, and one former United player believes that his value will skyrocket if he keeps up these good performances.

What’s been said then?

Speaking to Football Insider, former Leeds man Noel Whelan stated that he believes Harrison will worth a substantial amount next summer if his good form continues, hailing his impact and the areas of his game that have seemingly got better.

“Harrison’s turning into a gem. He’s fitter, stronger, more confident and has more belief in his ability. You need to have belief in your ability to shine at the highest level and we’re starting to see that from him.

“He works tirelessly and does superb things for the team. Now he is adding assists to his game, and is starting to win matches.

“Marcelo Bielsa has showed enormous faith in him and he’s been transformed. I expect him to be worth £15million by the end of the season if this continues. He’s unlikely to be in Man City’s squad next season so he could make a permanent move.”

We mastered the trick in the video below in 8 attempts… could you do better?

Must exercise option to buy

If Whelan’s prediction rings true, Leeds simply must exercise their option to buy Harrison.

At the moment, it’s unknown what the price tag attached to making the winger’s loan deal a permanent one is, but it’s hard to see it being any more than the £15m that Whelan reckons he’s worth.

After all, that’s the fee Helder Costa is set to move to Elland Road on a permanent basis for next summer – a value that’s quite considerable for a side in the Championship.

Aged just 22 there’s even more scope for the former NYCFC man to grow and improve, and if his value increases even further Leeds will be kicking themselves if they don’t tie him down permanently.

His form in recent times has shown just how crucial he is, becoming one of their most consistent players. On that evidence, securing his services for the future is of utmost importance.

Man Utd fans hail Mason Greenwood after injury-time winner against Doncaster

He may not be getting much of a look-in in the Manchester United first-team at the moment, but that hasn’t stopped Mason Greenwood showing the world exactly why he is a highly-regarded prospect.

The 18-year-old struck twice in his first two senior starts for the Red Devils earlier this season against FC Astana and Rochdale respectively, but has been kept away from the limelight by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, playing just 102 minutes of Premier League football.

On Tuesday night, Greenwood was playing for United’s U21s against Doncaster in the EFL Trophy, and with the scores locked level at 1-1 deep into injury-time, the 18-year-old stepped up to the occasion to fire home a dramatic winner.

After seeing the forward’s latest goal, United fans flooded to Twitter to voice their thoughts on the teenage sensation.

Many supporters of the Manchester side revealed their excitement at his incredible potential, and insisted he could be a big player for the first-team in the years to come.

Nottingham Forest defender Chema still has a way to go

This article is part of Football FanCast’s The Chalkboard series, which provides a tactical insight into teams, players, managers, potential signings and more…

Did he pass his third audition?

With Michael Dawson out injured, Sabri Lamouchi has been giving other players their chance to prove if they can keep the captain out of the team not just now but potentially for the future.

Tobias Figueiredo played against Blackburn Rovers and Wigan Athletic, but now it was time for Chema to be given another opportunity, having previously started against Brentford earlier in the month and replaced Dawson when he was injured against Stoke City.

Having been brought to the City Ground in the summer from Levante, his opportunities have been limited thus far, so how did he do in his latest outing and has he done enough to cement his place for the long term?

On the chalkboard

It was certainly a bit of a mixed night for the Spaniard.

Whilst he put in a relatively comfortable performance for the majority of the game, he played huge parts in both of the goals that the visitors conceded.

For the first strike, not only did he lose his runner in Josh Magennis, but also played him onside when he turned in Jon Toral’s shot. Then for the second he was caught out of position and was forced to play catch up as the Spanish midfielder squared the ball to Jarred Bowen.

If you take a look at his statistics from the game (taken from WhoScored), he completed 85% of his passes which was above the team average (84%), won eight aerial duels (double that of Joe Worrall in second) and made three tackles (joint-most of all in the team).

If he can replicate this sort of form going forward, then there shouldn’t be a question as to whether or not he can be the long term replacement for Dawson.

However, he just needs to work on his concentration, because whilst the statistics might be impressive, if he’s at fault for the goals they concede then his usefulness won’t last long.

Spurs fans unhappy Christian Eriksen back in training before Red Star Belgrade clash

Loads of Tottenham Hotspur fans on Twitter aren’t happy following the news that midfielder Christian Eriksen is back in training ahead of their Champions League clash with Red Star Belgrade at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Tuesday night.

The Denmark international missed the weekend draw with Watford with a dead leg, but the club confirmed on Monday that he is back in training ahead of the clash with the Serbian outfit in north London, and is presumably in contention to start.

Spurs certainly could do with a morale-boosting three points given they have taken just one point from their two European fixtures to date this term, and they were of course beaten 7-2 on their own patch by Bayern Munich previously.

Eriksen is one of a number of players who hasn’t been at his best in 2019/20, with Football London only handing him out a 2/10 rating for his performance in the 3-0 defeat against Brighton and Hove Albion prior to the international break, suggesting it might have been his worst display in a Tottenham shirt.

Supporters certainly aren’t happy that a player that reportedly is determined to leave when his contract expires in the summer is back available, with one saying “announce Red Star loss”, and another simply adding “just get rid”.
