West Ham fans horrified by Anderson development

According to a report by Turkish news outlet Sabah, via West Ham Gossip, the Hammers and GSB could let winger Felipe Anderson leave for nothing as Super Lig giants Galatasaray eye a move for the Brazilian.

Anderson, who has spent this season on loan at FC Porto, has endured a spell to forget in the Liga NOS – starting just one league match and totalling a meagre 128 minutes over 2020/2021 (WhoScored).

The 28-year-old, however, is still attracting interest from Galatasaray as they aim to bolster their squad for next season after losing out on the title to rivals Besiktas in very dramatic fashion.

The Turkish club do want to pay a fee for Anderson, though, meaning West Ham could well allow him to leave on a free transfer just to get his £85,000-per-week wages off the books.

Horrified by this development, it’s safe to say plenty of Irons were outraged at GSB as they pray this doesn’t come to fruition.

Celtic: Hoops closing in on Fergal Harkin

Celtic are thought to be closing in on Manchester City man Fergal Harkin as their new director of football, according to the Daily Record.

The Lowdown: Hoops’ longstanding interest

Celtic have been after the Irishman for some time. The Hoops opened talks with Harkin way back in March, just weeks after Neil Lennon resigned as manager.

A deal for Harkin, who is a ‘massive’ Hoops fan, was thought to be close last month, however, as we know, a deal is yet to be announced for the newly-created role.

It seems as if Harkin has his heart set on a move to Parkhead, though, after a recent development regarding the 44-year-old.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/celtic-updates-4/” title=”Celtic updates” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The Latest: Harkin turns down Belgium move

According to the Daily Record, Harkin has turned down a director of football role with SK Lommel.

Harkin, who is currently Manchester City’s football partnerships manager, has rejected the chance to become more hands-on abroad.

Irish sources believe that his decision regarding snubbing a switch to Belgium is down to his move to Glasgow edging closer.

The Verdict: One step forwards two steps back?

It seems as if Celtic’s rebuild was really starting to take shape. Eddie Howe was reportedly set to be announced as the club’s new manager, so Howe and Harkin could have ended up working closely together.

However, in a huge development, Howe’s talks with Celtic are thought to have collapsed, so Harkin, who looks to be the new DoF, may now have a huge say on Lennon’s successor, as was expected back in March.

Celtic have been linked with Harkin for a number of months, and it now appears as if they’ll be landing his services, so you’d expect him to be extremely busy from the get-go, should he put pen to paper.

Sheffield United interested in Tom Cairney

Sheffield United are interested in a move to bring Tom Cairney to Bramall Lane this summer.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to a report by TEAMtalk, who claim that the Blades’ new manager Slavisa Jokanovi, is keen on a reunion with the Fulham midfielder, who could be available for around £10m in the upcoming transfer window.

However, it is also reported that Fulham will not sanction the sale of the 30-year-old until they have decided whether or not they wish to continue with Scott Parker in charge of the west London side.

Jokanovic must move

While an injury kept Cairney – whom Parker has dubbed an “outstanding” player – sidelined for the majority of Fulham’s Premier League campaign, the Scotland international nevertheless demonstrated his talent for the Cottagers over a limited amount of fixtures this season.

Over his 10 top-flight appearances for Scott Parker’s side, the £8.1m-rated man bagged one goal, provided one assist and created one big chance for his team-mates, as well as taking an average of 1.2 shots and making 1.7 key passes per game.

Cairney’s range of passing was also impressive, with the midfielder completing an average of 54.8 passes per game, in addition to averaging 2.9 successful chipped passes and four successful long balls over each of his league appearances.

These returns saw the 30-year-old earn a seasonal SofaScore match rating of 7.28, ranking him as the club’s best performer in the Premier League.

Furthermore, the £27,000-per-week Scot also highly impressed in Fulham’s promotion-winning campaign last season, scoring eight goals, registering three assists and creating six big chances over his 39 Championship appearances for the Cottagers, earning a seasonal SofaScore match rating of 7.12.

As such, a move for Cairney should be an absolute priority for Jokanovic this summer, as the midfielder would appear to have the quality to help fire Sheffield United back to the Premier League next season, as well as the potential of helping the Blades remain in the top flight thereafter.

MCFC fans want Laporte to stay

Manchester City fans are desperate for Aymeric Laporte to stay at the club after his impressive performance for Spain against Portugal on Friday night.

City signed Laporte from Athletic Bilbao for £57m in 2018 (BBC), and he has proven to be a good signing for the club. During the 2018/19 campaign, he was particularly important, making 35 appearances in the Premier League (Transfermarkt) as the Citizens won the league by one point ahead of Liverpool (footballdatabase.com).

Last term, he did not play as big of a role, and therefore has been linked with a move away from the Etihad Stadium (mundodeportivo.com).

Born in France, £40.5m-valued Laporte (Transfermarkt) has decided to play for Spain after continually been overlooked by Didier Deschamps. On Friday, he made his debut for La Roja, and he helped his side keep a clean sheet, with one fan hailing his performance as a ‘masterclass’.

The City fans were delighted with his display, and they urged him to stay at the club as a result. They took to social media platform Twitter to share their thoughts.

Howe ‘snubbed’ Celtic due to Saints appeal

It has been over three months since Neil Lennon packed his bags and left Celtic behind following a dismal campaign in the Parkhead dugout.

A swift resolution to their woes was needed but the Hoops hierarchy have found life difficult when it’s come to replacing him.

What’s the word?

Celtic were in advanced talks to bring Eddie Howe to Paradise for the best part of two months but after waiting for such a long period of time, a move collapsed.

The 43-year-old looked set to take charge with just his backroom staff to be agreed upon but a deal couldn’t be struck, leaving the Bhoys to consider alternatives.

Ange Postecoglou is now the frontrunner to become the new manager but the fallout to their chase of Howe continues to rage on.

Football Insider shared a new piece of information regarding their pursuit at the weekend, suggesting that Howe snubbed Celtic because he wants to take the Southampton job.

Ralph Hasenhuttl is currently in charge of the Saints but it’s thought a position could open up if they have a poor start to the new campaign.

Desmond can’t be happy

After the two parties pulled the plug on a deal a week and a half ago it can’t have left Dermot Desmond and co very happy.

They’d been waiting patiently and were refusing to panic as they sat about while Bournemouth’s promotion charge went on.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-celtic-manager-and-transfer-news-ajer-howe-lampard-wilshere-gauld” title=”Read the latest Celtic manager and transfer news!”]

Howe wanted to bring in a number of coaches from the Vitality Stadium but had to wait until their Championship play-off campaign had concluded.

Bournemouth didn’t get promoted but Howe failed to agree deals with his preferred backroom staff, leading to a U-turn on the situation from both the club and manager.

That appeared to be the primary reason for a collapse but if it is indeed interest from the Premier League that’s caused another stumbling block, Desmond should be rather angry.

Crystal Palace played a significant part in one of the delays as they reportedly interviewed Howe, only for him to flop during the interview process.

What’s even more peculiar is that there isn’t currently a position at Southampton for the Englishman to take.

They ended the season in a horrendous run of form, winning just five of the 22 league matches they’ve played in 2021.

Southampton started the campaign in good form and were sitting top of the table in November. If a similar eventuality occurs in the new term then it will leave Howe waiting even longer for a job.

If everything had worked out, he may well have been sitting in the Parkhead dugout with one of the most historical clubs in world football.

Desmond should be worried that Celtic aren’t being viewed as a big catch.

Leeds eye up audacious Marcelo swoop

Leeds United are reportedly keen on making an audacious move for Real Madrid legend Marcelo this summer, as the search for a left-back continues.

The Lowdown: Left-back needed

The Whites could have a productive time of things in the next transfer window, with Marcelo Bielsa keen on bringing in reinforcements.

One area that looks key to address is left-back, with Ezgjan Alioski expected to move on once his contract expires.

Leeds have been linked with a host of players in that position, including Ajax man Nicolas Tagliafico, but a hugely exciting rumour has now emerged.

The Latest: Marcelo linked with move

According to the Mirror, the Whites are interested in snapping up Marcelo, with the Brazilian an iconic figure at Real Madrid, winning five La Liga titles and four Champions League crowns.

Everton are also mentioned as potential suitors for the 33-year-old, whose Madrid contract expires at the end of next season.

The Verdict: Potential incredible addition

While Marcelo may not be the force he once was, he could be a wonderful addition at Leeds, both in terms of his quality and the winning mentality he has acquired in Spain, having won so much silverware.

At Madrid, Marcelo has won five league titles, four Champions Leagues and many other medals and that winning experience could be an excellent addition to the Leeds squad,

At 33, the Brazilian could still have a few years left in him at the top – Pablo Hernandez is 36 and has only just left the Whites, for example.

Whether or not Marcelo’s wage demands or transfer fee become an issue remains to be seen, but the fact that Leeds are linked with him is a testament to the strides they have made under Bielsa.

In other news, a pundit has tipped a Leeds player to feature more prominently next season. Find out who it is here.

Pundit rules out Chelsea’s Ross Barkley rejoining Aston Villa

Dean Windass doesn’t think that Ross Barkley did enough to warrant a return to Aston Villa next season.

Barkley started like a house on fire following his loan switch from Chelsea last summer.

He scored stunning goals in his opening two appearances against both Liverpool and then Leicester as Villa made an impressive start to the Premier League season and sat second after four matches.

Barkley’s honeymoon period continued with an assist in Villa’s win at Arsenal, but he would contribute to just one more goal in his final 19 outings and found himself battling for a starting place by the end of his spell with Dean Smith’s team.

It’s unclear whether Barkley will be a part of Thomas Tuchel’s plans moving forward, but a more consistent loan period with Villa would have given the Chelsea man every chance of earning himself a permanent deal and possibly a place in Gareth Southgate’s England squad.

But the midfielder will now return to Chelsea, and Windass exclusively told Football FanCast that Barkley’s next step must guarantee regular football:

“I think that will fizzle out now. If he did well then might have kept him, but I think that ship has sailed. But he needs to be playing week in, week out.”

Palmer: Paul Pogba will sign new Manchester United contract

Former Premier League midfielder Carlton Palmer has told The Transfer Tavern in an exclusive interview that he expects Paul Pogba to sign a new contract at Manchester United.

Pogba’s current deal is set to expire next year and he is currently being linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain.

However, according to The Sun, United are ready to make the France international the highest-paid player in England with a new £400,000-a-week contract.

And now Palmer is expecting him to remain at Old Trafford, believing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men will challenge for the title next season.

“I think he’ll stay at Manchester United,” the ex-Leeds United player exclusively told TT.

“They’re going to sign [Jadon] Sancho, they’re going to go big this summer and I think they’re going to be challenging next season. If they get the players in that they’re going for, I think they’re going to be challenging.

“And the one thing is, if you’re going to be challenging for the league title, you can’t be selling one of your best players, Pogba. You really can’t, so I expect to see Pogba renew his contract.”

Pogba has really shown his quality at Euro 2020, winning the Star of the Match award for his display in France’s 1-0 win against Germany.

If that match is anything to go by, United really should be looking to keep the midfielder around, which does seem to be their aim.

West Ham believe they can sign Onuachu

According to a report by OwnGoalNigeria.com, bringing a development on the Paul Onuachu saga, West Ham United now believe they are in pole position to sign the player this summer.

The Lowdown: West Ham eyeing Onuachu…

Various claims from Nigeria have surfaced over this last week detailing West Ham and their seemingly heavy interest in Genk striker Onuachu.

Allnigeriasoccer.com relayed just last week that the Irons are in a two-horse race with Premier League rivals Brighton for the player.

That same outlet then claimed manager David Moyes personally told West Ham hierarchy to lodge an official summer bid, with the Scotsman apparently eager to beat competitors to his signature.

The Latest: West Ham believe they are leading…

As per this latest claim, from OwnGoalNigeria, West Ham now believe they are in pole position to sign Onuachu ahead of other clubs.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/west-ham-latest/” title=”West Ham latest!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

Both the Hammers and Brighton have been told by Genk that the 27-year-old will cost £26 million to sign this summer, but West Ham are hopeful of negotiating that figure down with add-ons.

So far, it’s a ‘straight battle’ between the Seagulls and West Ham for Onuachu – but the latter side are convinced they’re winning the race for his signature.

The Verdict: Do it GSB…

The Super Eagles international comes as a very fruitful alternative to more expensive targets like Tammy Abraham, who is said to be valued at around £40m.

At nearly half the price, West Ham could land a proficient goal scorer who bagged a head-turning 35 strikes in all competitions over 2020/2021 (Transfermarkt).

While there is an argument to be made that these goals came in Belgium, any striker with those kind of numbers in a top flight should be attracting attention.

Former AFC Wimbledon striker and England international John Fashanu certainly believes he is worth the praise, lauding him as a ‘goal king’ in an interview with Punch.

Everton manager update on Benitez

Lots of Everton fans have been left to rage as a manager update emerged on Rafa Benitez.

As per The Athletic, it seems ever more certain that the Spaniard will become the next boss at Goodison Park, and confirmation of his appointment could even be made by the end of the week.

Benitez’s potential appointment would certainly cause a stir on Merseyside, given his previous connections with Liverpool, with whom he won the UEFA Champions League with in the 2004/05 season, while he previously called the Toffees a ‘small club’ after a draw in the Merseyside derby back in February 2007.

Thus, it is completely understandable to see why so many Evertonians are against hiring the 61-year-old, but it looks as if they will not get a say over who they want their next coach to be.
