WHU fans react to Moyes news

West Ham United fans have been reacting to the news that David Moyes son, David Moyes Jr, is now working with his father at the club as a scout.

The previous term was a marvelous one for the Hammers that exceeded almost all expectations. After narrowly avoiding relegation during the 2019/20 term, the Irons finished in sixth place in the Premier League table last time out – that means they will be competing in the Europa League this coming campaign.

While there are plenty of people who deserve credit for this turnaround in fortunes, it is Moyes himself who has arguably played the biggest role. It seems his success has earned him a bigger say in how the club is run – he has been able to to bring his son on board as a club scout, as per The Daily Mail.

The news was shared on Twitter by @WestHam_Central, and it attracted plenty of attention from the supporters. They took to the social media platform to share their thoughts.

Let’s see what the fans had to say about the Moyes news below

Leicester linked to Mikkel Damsgaard

Leicester City have been linked with a move for Sampdoria winger Mikkel Damsgaard after a string of impressive displays at Euro 2020.

What’s the story?

According to Sky Sports reporter Ben Grounds (as reported by Leicestershire Live), the Foxes have opened negotiations with the 20-year-old’s representatives over a potential transfer.

Damsgaard has starred for Denmark over the summer, scoring one goal and providing an assist, helping his nation reach the semi-finals of the European Championship.

Fans surely buzzing

The youngster is a product of the famed Nordsjaelland academy and only moved to the Serie A 12 months ago via a £6 million deal.

However, after a solid first campaign in Italian football and an outstanding contribution to Denmark’s run to the last four of the Euros, he could be on the move once again over the coming months.

Damsgaard recorded modest numbers last term as he settled into life at Sampdoria, bagging just two goals and providing a modest four assists in 35 top-flight appearances.

Nevertheless, he still managed 1.5 dribbles per league game, the highest tally amongst his teammates. His potential is clear for all to see, and he’s showcased it on the international stage to devastating effect.

After playing a pivotal part in a shock 2-1 victory over eventual champions Inter back in January, TV2’s football expert Martin Mikkelsen hailed Damsgaard as being “magical”, praising his decision-making in the final third despite his tender years.

“He’s magical – what speed! He is dynamic and can go both ways. He is creative but also so mature in his decisions,” Mikkelsen claimed.

After Harvey Barnes suffered a season-ending injury in February, Leicester were left with the ageing Marc Albrighton, and the underwhelming Cengiz Under as the only recognised wingers in their squad.

The likes of Ajoze Perez and Ricardo Pereira were forced to play out of position as the Midlands outfit narrowly missed out on a Champions League qualification spot once again.

Brendan Rodgers has already secured the signatures of Patson Daka and Boubaary Soumare as the Northern Irish tactician plots another assault on the top four, but acquiring another winger is thought to be high up on his wish list.

Damsgaard would certainly fit the bill of a typical Leicester signing, and news that the club have opened talks with his representatives will surely have the club’s supporters buzzing.

And, in other news…Rodgers can save millions by unleashing never-seen LCFC gem, he’s “absolutely class”

Aston Villa: Fans react to pre-season games

Aston Villa shared details on how supporters can watch the club’s pre-season fixtures on Monday.

However, the update didn’t go down with some Villa fans, who vented their frustration on social media.

Villa take on Walsall, Stoke City, Nottingham Forest, Bristol City and Sevilla in the space of two-and-a-half weeks prior to their first game of the new season against Watford on August 14.

A single match pass for any of those games on Villa TV will cost £4.99 to watch, with fans also having the option to subscribe for 12 months of Villa TV for £34.99 or two months free with the pre-season friendlies for £19.99.

The club made no mention of tickets for the games, admitting that Villa TV is the only place where fans can watch live coverage of all five friendlies.

Villa fans react

Villa posted the news on their official Twitter page on Monday evening and here is what these Villa supporters had to say in reply, with one left ‘disappointed’ by the arrangement.

“Watch live coverage of all five pre-season matches, plus 12 months access to Premium content on VillaTV (normally £19.99) – £34.99… huh?”

“I love Villa and everything they are doing. But £5 a match for pre season games is a bit of a joke, can’t lie. I’d understand if it was Premier League games not on the TV but pre season and the fact they used to stream it for free”

“Slightly disappointed that as a club we need to charge people to watch a pre-season friendly online.”

“Amazing how quickly everything gets a price slapped on it in football! It’s not like we give you our money in ticket sales (£500+), replica kits (£150+) & training wear (£100+) every single year, you now have to charge us for the 1 free thing we used to get from the club”

Man Utd linked to Griezmann

Manchester United have been linked with a move for Barcelona forward Antoine Griezmann as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer plots his way to the Premier League summit.

What’s the story?

The La Liga giants are needing to raise funds this summer amid their dire financial situation, and Griezmann could be one of the first-team stars sacrificed as a result.

According to Spanish outlet Sport, the Red Devils are one of several sides interested in the 30-year-old’s services, with Atletico Madrid, Chelsea, Juventus and Manchester City also credited with an interest.

Fans will be buzzing

Since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took charge of United two-and-a-half years ago, the 20-time English champions have looked to move away from signing ageing stars on huge salaries.

Instead, the Norwegian tactician has prioritised bringing in young talent who can grow and develop at the club and has had large amounts of success by doing so.

Griezmann’s arrival, therefore, would represent a reversion back to the Old Trafford outfit’s previous tactics of bringing in established names, an approach which saw the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Radamel Falcao and Bastian Schweinsteiger struggle to make an impact.

However, the World Cup-winning striker has showcased he still possesses top-class quality on the biggest stage in recent months for both club and country.

Despite France being knocked out of Euro 2020 in the first knockout round, Griezmann put in several standout displays for Didier Deschamps’ men, scoring one goal, providing 2.5 key passes per game – the highest tally amongst his teammates – and recorded an impressive 7.17 WhoScored rating.

His solid performances for Les Bleus over the summer followed on from a highly respectable campaign for Barcelona.

Greizmann bagged 20 goals and provided a further 13 assists in all competitions for the Catalan club, winning the Copa del Rey in the process, highlighting the £54 million-rated star’s world-class ability.

Therefore, news that United are interested in signing the Barca man will surely have large sections of the club’s supporters buzzing. He was once described as a “phenomenon” by ex-United man Ander Herrera, and his addition would provide a significant boost to Solsjaer’s ranks.

Although signing players in their thirties isn’t a suitable long-term transfer strategy, it could be the perfect way to bridge the gap to Manchester City next season, allowing the likes of Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood and Jadon Sancho time to develop their skills whilst, hopefully, winning some silverware at the same time.

And, in other news…Man Utd make approach for £22.5m-rated beast, he’d be an upgrade on McTominay

West Brom keen on Conor Hourihane move

West Brom are reportedly interested in signing Aston Villa midfielder Conor Hourihane this summer.

The Lowdown: Lack of playing time for Hourihane

Villa enjoyed an impressive 2020/21 season in the Premier League as they finished 11th, but Hourihane was a peripheral figure throughout the campaign.

The 26-cap Republic of Ireland international made just three league starts for the club and was loaned out to Swansea City in the January transfer window.

The Latest: West Brom linked with Hourihane

An exit may be on the cards this summer, and according to The Athletic, West Brom are keen on signing Hourihane, with Sheffield United also seen as potential suitors.

While a number of clubs are believed to be interested in acquiring the 30-year-old’s signature, the Baggies are one of the few who could afford him given his £42,000-a-week wages.

The Verdict: Shrewd addition by Ismael

Hourihane could be an excellent signing by Valerien Ismael, adding experience and quality to West Brom’s midfield.

The Irishman has 145 Championship appearances to his name, scoring 30 goals and registering 31 assists in that time in highlighting the end product he possesses. During his time on loan at Swansea last term, their manager Steve Cooper lauded the Irishman as “a real focused professional” who had been “so impressive from the day he’s come through the door” (Irish Independent).

At 30, Hourihane still has a few years left in him at a high level, and he is a player who could stand out in the second tier if West Brom were to offer him a new lease of life in the Midlands.

Wolves transfer update on Cajuste

Wolves are reportedly in talks to sign Jens Cajuste in the summer transfer window.

The Lowdown: One for the future

Cajuste is seen as the ‘future of Swedish football’ by Football Talent Scout Jacek Kulig, who also described him as ‘excellent’ in an impressive performance for FC Midtjylland against Brondby in a match in the Danish Superliga back in April, and went on to claim that he is a ‘great talent’.

He was a key player for his side in the 2020/21 term, making no fewer than 39 appearances in total across all competitions, and has played in five senior games for Sweden, including at Euro 2020 (Transfermarkt).

The Latest: Cajuste talks

According to SportExpressen, the Midlands club are currently in discussions with Cajuste’s representatives over his potential signing, along with Leeds United, Newcastle United and Crystal Palace.

They are also prepared to make a bid for the defensive midfield player, who is clearly in high-demand.

The Verdict: Wait on Neves future

Ruben Neves has reportedly been linked with a move to either Manchester United or Arsenal amid uncertainty over his future at Molineux.

If the Wanderers were to lose the Portugal international in the middle of the park, then Cajuste could prove to be an ideal replacement.

At just 21 years of age, the Swede clearly has a lot of potential, and his six-foot-one frame makes him ideally suited to the Premier League.

However, the signing may prove to be unnecessary if Neves ends up staying at WWFC.

Liverpool fans react to right-back report

Liverpool won’t use funds from the potential sale of Neco Williams to sign another right-back, according to journalist Paul Gorst.

It was reported in June that the likes of Southampton, Leeds United, Burnley and Wolverhampton Wanderers were interested in Williams.

The Reds are apparently open to selling the 20-year-old if their £10million valuation is met.

Williams himself is keen to secure ‘regular first-team football’, having been limited to just three Premier League starts last season as Trent Alexander-Arnold’s understudy.

How would Liverpool use the Neco Williams money?

According to Gorst, though, that £10million wouldn’t be reinvested in a direct replacement.

That’s because Liverpool are confident Joe Gomez and 17-year-old academy prospect Conor Bradley provide sufficient depth.

In theory, the money could instead be put towards a replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum, who departed Anfield at the end of his contract.

It could also be used to sign another forward with a mid-season Africa Cup of Nations calling for Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.

Fan feed LFC Transfer Room relayed Gorst’s claim, and here’s what supporters made of it.

Newcastle transfer update on Fulgini

Newcastle United are reportedly in a race with a number of clubs in the Premier League to sign Angelo Fulgini in the summer transfer window.

The Lowdown: Fulgini impresses

Fulgini has come off the back of a very impressive individual 2020/21 season with Angers in France, scoring no fewer than 10 goals and making a further four assists in 36 games in total over all competitions (Transfermarkt).

He also showed his added ability to play in a wide number of different positions, which would be very useful to have in Steve Bruce’s squad.

The Latest: Fulgini monitored

As per The Daily Mail, Fulgini is being ‘monitored’ by the St. James’ Park faithful as well as Crystal Palace, while he has also been previously linked to both Everton and Southampton.

Rated at £12m, he is described in the piece as a ‘talented’ player while also ‘versatile, creative, skilful’ and a ‘set-piece specialist’.

The Verdict: Sign

Fulgini sounds like a player who could really benefit the North East club in terms of his creativity, which players like Allan Saint-Maximin and Callum Wilson should be able to thrive off of.

£12m could turn out to be a real bargain too, as at just 24 years of age, he certainly still has plenty of time to improve further and develop into a top player.

Nonetheless, the Toon Army will be desperate for a new face to come into the door, and so we suspect Fulgini would be welcomed with open arms.

Birmingham interested in Brandon Baiye

Birmingham City are interested in a deal to bring Brandon Baiye to St. Andrew’s this summer.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to a claim made by Mike McGrath, with The Telegraph journalist revealing in a post on Twitter that the Blues have submitted an enquiry regarding the availability of the Clermont Foot defensive midfielder ahead of a potential move in the summer transfer window.

McGrath goes on to claim that 2. Bundesliga side Hamburg have also registered their interest in the 20-year-old with the Ligue 1 side, however, it is not said whether Clermont would be willing to discuss a deal – be that temporary or permanent – for the Belgium U21 international this summer.

In his tweet, McGrath said: “Birmingham have enquired over Belgium Under-21 midfielder Brandon Baiye, 20, at Clermont. Bundesliga2 club Hamburg have also shown interest.”

Fans will be buzzing

Having already secured a number of impressive loan and permanent signings in the summer transfer window, with the likes of Jordan Graham, Chuks Aneke and Ryan Woods joining on free transfers and Dion Sanderson, Juan Familia-Castillo and Tahith Chong arriving on temporary deals, the news that Lee Bowyer does not appear to be finished with his summer transfer business just yet is sure to have Birmingham fans buzzing.

Indeed, despite his tender age, the £315k-rated man impressed over his 28 2. Liga appearances while on loan at SC Austria Lustenau last season, scoring four goals and registering three assists for the Austrian side.

As such, despite predominantly being a defensively-minded player, it is obvious from his returns that the midfielder also possesses a keen eye for goal, as well as being useful from a creative perspective.

Furthermore, with defensive midfield being an area of the pitch in which Lee Bowyer lacks a bit of depth, the addition of Baiye ahead of the upcoming Championship campaign would appear to solve this particular problem for the 44-year-old in the short term, as well as the Belgian seeming to boast a considerable amount of potential for the future.

So, while Baiye may be something of an unknown quantity to many Blues fans, considering how well things have gone for Bowyer at St. Andrew’s thus far, it would seem wise for the club’s fanbase to once again place their trust in the 44-year-old’s judgement regarding the Clermont starlet.

Newcastle United make bid for Jens Cajuste

Newcastle United have made an offer for FC Midtjylland’s Jens Cajuste, according to a reliable journalist.

What’s the story?

Despite the Magpies agreeing a fee with Arsenal’s Joe Willock, it appears Steve Bruce isn’t done with strengthening his midfield ahead of the new Premier League campaign.

And, writing on Twitter, RMC Sport’s Loic Tanzi, claimed: “Newcastle have made an offer of € 14million + 2million Bonus to Midtjylland for Jens Cajuste. Rennes have yet to make a fourth offer but the competition is now intensifying #Mercato#RMCLive”

Fans will be buzzing

With his experience playing in the Champions League, and at the age of 22, Cajuste fits the bill as a player who could really freshen up Newcastle’s midfield with some young legs and energy – much like Willock brought to the table last season when he arrived on loan from Arsenal.

A profile done by Leeds Live, said of the Midtjylland powerhouse: “Cajuste is an all-action midfielder whose attributes look ready-made for Premier League football. Tough tackling, close control and accurate passing are seen as his main strengths but he offers everything you would want in a player of his position.

“Standing at 6 foot 2, he is dominant both in the air and on the surface which would provide vital stability in the middle of the park for Leeds. The 21-year-old also enjoys exhibiting his flair with a number of fancy but effective touches and passes being a particular stand-out feature of his overall game.”

With Willock only 21 himself, Newcastle could be looking at a starting midfield pairing who are both incredibly young and with vast amounts of potential to really grow and develop at St James’ Park.

It’s an exciting prospect that Magpies fans can look forward to with real hope for the future, and they will surely be buzzing with Tanzi’s latest update on their move for Cajuste.

What’s just as important, and will have supporters optimistic for the rest of the window, is that they seemingly have the funds to sign both Willock and Cajuste after reports in recent months had suggested Bruce would have virtually little to spend this summer.

Meanwhile, Newcastle could sign a dream Joe Willock partner in this star…
