Everton are believed to be hiring two new specialists at the club, including an expert on scouting youth players, according to an exciting report that has emerged during the international break.
Everton transfer & manager latest
The Blues continue to be linked with possible new signings, with FCSB centre-back Joyskim Dawa linked with a move to Goodison Park. He has averaged a hugely impressive seven clearances per game in the Europa League this season, which is more than both Michael Keane and James Tarkowski have managed in the Premier League.
Meanwhile, Silas has also been mentioned as an option for Everton, with the attacker currently on loan at Red Star Belgrade from Bundesliga side VfB Stuttgart. He has 56 goal contributions in 132 appearances for the latter, showing that he could be a strong source of end product for the Merseysiders.
As for Sean Dyche’s future as manager at Goodison, the Englishman looks to be safe in his job for the time being, but rumours continue to emerge regarding potential successors.
One significant rumour that has dropped has suggested that Dan Friedkin wants David Moyes to return as manager on an interim basis, prior to making way for Jose Mourinho at the end of this season. The latter would be a significant appointment if it happened, given his status as one of the leading coaches of his generation.
Everton make key in-house appointment
Now, a fresh report from Goodison News has claimed that Everton are hiring two new specialists at Finch Farm, with Mark Quayle named as their new academy national recruitment lead, signing a “rolling contract”. He was lead scout for the 13-18 age group at Goodison Park, highlighting his expertise with young players, and he has now received a promotion.
The update also states that Everton are intending to hire a “performance analyst for the first team”, giving the Blues the best possible chance of turning things around after such a disappointing start to the Premier League campaign.
Dan Friedkin at AS Roma.
It is so encouraging to see shrewd decisions being made as The Friedkin Group slowly look to increase their influence at Goodison, as they aim to oversee a far more successful period in the club’s history, following three relegation battles in a row in the league.
The fact that Quayle has spent a period at Arsenal as a youth scout in the past further suggests that he is an expert in his field, and the hope is that he can flourish even more in this new position, looking to make his influence grow further at Everton, unearthing young gems in the process.

A top-quality performance analyst alongside Dyche would also be welcome, providing the manager with key information, as the new owners look to get the Blues in a position where they have everyone pulling in the same direction, which certainly hasn’t always been the case during the Farhad Moshiri era.
Liverpool just about got over the line in the Premier League this Saturday as Arne Slot’s side showed grit and determination by the bucket load to overcome Brighton and Hove Albion 2-1.
Many of the passionate Reds supporters packed into Anfield must have been fearing the worst as the clock ticked down and Ferdi Kadioglu’s strike was the only moment of action separating the two sides, but the table-toppers found a way to clinch the three points via a quickfire Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah double.
Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah
Salah continues to prove his worth for Slot’s side, despite his future at the club still hanging in the balance regarding his contract winding down, as the 32-year-old bailed his team out of a disappointing result by once more delivering the goods.
Salah's form this season
Even as he finds himself deep into the twilight years of his playing days, the outstanding Egyptian is still managing to shine bright for his long-term employers, with seven goals notched up in Premier League action this season from ten clashes.
Mohamed Salah scores for Liverpool
Also amassing a very impressive five assists in the league – away from his expertise in firing home strike after strike – it was his unerring coolness under pressure in front of goal that sealed all three points against Fabian Hurzeler’s stubborn Seagulls, as Salah hammered home this effort after Liverpool had broke forward with devastating pace.
Now onto a jaw-dropping 220 goals and 96 assists at Anfield from 364 games, it is going to be a hell of a task for the powers that be at the Reds to adequately replace such a clinical icon if he does decide his time at the Premier League club is up next summer.
Consequently, with this anxiety hanging over proceedings, there must be many transfer targets in mind if Salah does exit the top-flight titans soon.

Liverpool looking at "unplayable" Salah replacement
According to Sky Sports journalist Lyall Thomas, AFC Bournemouth ace Antoine Semenyo is being looked at as one potential Salah successor, with Thomas stating that the Reds are being ‘prudent’ in terms of mapping out viable replacements for the 32-year-old.
Semenyo has kicked on even more for the Cherries this season after an encouraging 2023/24 showing, with four goals and one assist tallied up in the league for Andoni Iraola’s men so far, who very much had their star number 24 to thank for an excellent 2-1 win over Manchester City last time out.

The ex-Bristol City attacker tore Pep Guardiola’s visitors to shreds on the South Coast, registering an unbelievable six successful dribbles across the course of his lively 90 minutes, on top of opening the scoring after just nine minutes on the clock.
Liverpool would have equally basked in the glory of this result when it filtered through to the Anfield masses, with Semenyo now on the radar of many clubs such as Slot’s men owing to his electric performances this season to date, against some of the division’s very best outfits.
Labelled as “unplayable” on his day by football journalist Ed Aarons after a wonderful solo strike against Southampton at the back-end of September, Semenyo also possesses many of the traits and characteristics of Salah when on the pitch, bursting forward and causing all sorts of havoc with tricks and flicks for opposition defenders to try and keep tabs on.
Liverpool won’t be alone in this pursuit, with Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur also named as parties looking at the breakout Cherries number 24, but Slot and Co could do far worse than going all in for Semenyo if Salah does decide enough is enough in England.

Liverpool are getting busy tying down their key men as the threat of losing players for free is becoming increasingly real for Arne Slot’s side, and are prepared to enter into talks with another star after centre-back Ibrahima Konate, it has been claimed.
Konate set for new contract
Though he didn’t start the first game of Arne Slot’s Premier League career, Ibrahima Konate has become a key figure under the new Liverpool boss and is set to be rewarded with a new deal.
The French centre-back has enjoyed mixed performances since moving to Anfield from RB Leipzig, but now appears to have stepped up under Slot and is enjoying the best outings of his career.
The 25-year-old is due to be out of contract in 2026 as things stand, but is in talks over a new deal and, according to Fabrizio Romano, that extension is simply a “matter of time”, which will likely see him tied down for much of the prime of his career.
There are, of course, plenty of other deals to sort out at Anfield in the coming months, not least Konate’s defensive partner Virgil Van Dijk, who is out of contract at the end of the year.
Liverpool set sights on signing "exciting" new £30k-p/w midfielder for Slot

Less certain still are the futures of club legend Mohammed Salah and talismanic defender Trent Alexander-Arnold, both of whom are also set to be free agents in a matter of months and who can discuss departures as soon as January. And there has been an update on Liverpool’s contract plans.
Liverpool readying fresh deal for forward
Unfortunately, it is not concerning either Salah or Alexander-Arnold, but rather teammate Luis Diaz, who is expected to be approached over a new contract in the coming months. The Colombian netted a hat-trick against Bayer Leverkusen as he helped the Reds continue their 100% record in this season’s Champions League, and has returned to some of his best form at Anfield since the arrival of Slot.

It follows a summer in which there were reports of him leaving the club permanently, with Barcelona reportedly keen on signing the former Porto man. However, Fabrizio Romano outlines that key talks with Slot and Director of Football Richard Hughes convinced him to stay on Merseyside.
“Richard Hughes and Arne Slot together were talking to Luis Diaz and presenting the new project. They introduced him to the new idea they had for the club for the present and the future. They were able to go the same way as Luis as part of their future plans.”
Now, he adds, they want to offer him a new deal to reward his performances.
“I will not be surprised to see Liverpool, after Ibrahima Konate – who will be the next one to renew his contract – negotiate a new deal also with Diaz. Liverpool want to try to make a new deal happen with Lucho, so let’s see what’s going to happen.”
Though not the immediate contract news that many Liverpool fans will have wanted, tying Diaz down to a new deal would help prevent the situation they are faced with this summer from repeating itself any time soon.
Cristiano Ronaldo dreams of posting “untouchable” records, says Raphael Varane, with a positive form of “madness” driving the Portuguese GOAT.

Despite winning countless honours with club and country over the years, with the history books being written on a regular basis, Ronaldo is showing no sign of slowing down at the age of 40. He remains a prolific presence for Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr and is up to 217 international caps for Portugal.

Ronaldo has stated a desire to reach 1,000 career goals before giving any thought to retirement, and is being backed to hit that landmark. Varane believes that CR7 will not stop until his body gives out, with there still plenty left for him to achieve.
WHAT RAPHAEL VARANE SAID
French defender Varane, who worked with Ronaldo at Real Madrid and Manchester United, has told : “He wants to be untouchable in terms of records and leave an indelible mark on football for thousands of years if possible. His major motivation at 40 is hard to analyse since he's already won everything long ago, but it's not financial.
“It's more about wanting to be extraordinary. He never mentioned age limit [in terms of retiring]. But for him, anything is possible. So when he reaches a limit, he wants to go further. I think he'll only stop when he can't anymore.”

Ronaldo has been at the top of his game for over 20 years, with remarkable individual standards being maintained. Varane added on how the five-time Ballon d’Or winner has been able to achieve that: “They say genius borders on madness, and what he does is sometimes a bit mad. It's so intense that it's impressive. He inspired me enormously throughout my career.
“Yes, hot bath, cold bath. But that's not a myth; I did it too. He does it for the physical aspect but also for the mind, to unwind before sleeping. He didn't do it every match nor did [he do] sit-ups all day long every day, but he always maintained this level of demand.”
Mickey Arthur is an excellent manager of players. This, essentially, is Sri Lanka Test captain Dimuth Karunaratne’s take-away after two years under this coach.Arthur had spent much of the pandemic in Sri Lanka while borders were closed, and has had a number of public endorsements from his players, including Karunaratne and Wanindu Hasaranga. He is, however, leaving Sri Lanka for a “head of cricket” role with Derbyshire, despite having wanted to stay on.
The board, acting on the advice of SLC’s technical committee headed by Aravinda de Silva, had asked several of the men’s national side’s coaches to reapply for their roles – a risk Arthur was unwilling to take given the Derbyshire offer.Either way, this is Arthur’s last series with the Sri Lanka side. Although senior players had at times been unhappy with Arthur’s role in the resolution of their contracts stand-off with the board earlier in the year, Karunaratne was nevertheless effusive in his praise of Arthur ahead of these Tests against West Indies.”Mickey’s a different kind of coach – he’s someone who builds a lot of confidence,” Karunaratne said. “When you get to this level, more than skills, it’s your mental side and your preparation that’s important. Mickey treats each player differently.”
Although Sri Lanka’s Test side has not seen substantial leaps ahead during Arthur’s tenure, they did seem to make gains in the limited-overs formats. Although not particularly renowned as a T20 coach, Sri Lanka’s T20 side turned heads at the recent World Cup.”He’s a father to some, a friend to others,” Karunaratne said of Arthur. “He knows how to handle each player. He’s built a lot of confidence in the team. We saw a lot of players come through under him, and we saw players who were already good get better while he was around. He’s a very good coach. I’m disappointed he’s leaving us. Actually, as players, we’re very sad. But I’m sure he’ll be of great service to Derbyshire.”Arthur’s final assignment with Sri Lanka is the two-Test series against West Indies, starting Sunday in Galle.
A key update has emerged regarding Liverpool’s chances of signing Eintracht Frankfurt star Omar Marmoush during the January transfer window.
Liverpool in talks to sign Marmoush
It is no secret that the Reds were quiet on the transfer front during the summer, with Federico Chiesa the only player coming in straight away, sealing a move from Juventus. Giorgi Mamardashvili also joined from Valencia, but is spending the 2024/25 season on loan at the La Liga side.
Supporters are desperate to see Arne Slot backed with reinforcements moving forward, and Marmoush has emerged as a key transfer target for Liverpool in recent weeks.
One report has even claimed that contact has been made with the 25-year-old Frankfurt ace, as Michael Edwards looks to work his magic and bring one of the Bundesliga’s most devastating attacking players to Anfield.
Marmoush is in the midst of a remarkable start to the season for his current club, scoring nine goals and registering four assists in just eight appearances in the league, also finding the net once in the Europa League.
Fresh update on Liverpool signing Marmoush
According to a new update from Sky Germany [via Sport Witness], Liverpool are “unlikely” to complete the signing of Marmoush during the January window, despite confirmation of “talks” taking place over a move.
Frankfurt will demand as much as £50m if the Reds want to seal the signing of their best player, but it looks as though they may have to wait until the end of the season. Frankfurt want their attacker to sign a new deal, but he is hesitant to, opening the door for a move next summer.
Omar Marmoush for Frankfurt.
While Liverpool fans would no doubt love to see Marmoush move to Anfield midway through the current campaign, they have more than enough attacking depth to get by until next summer. The Egyptian jumps out as a superb option for Slot, however, and his performances this season suggest that he is a player coming right into his peak years.
Primarily a central attacking option, there is still an argument to say that Marmoush could be partly viewed as a replacement for fellow Egypt star Mohamed Salah, should the 32-year-old not sign a new deal, but ideally, having them both in the squad would be perfect.
Granted, some may argue that Liverpool could ding themselves with too many attacking options, making it hard for Slot to keep everyone happy, but Marmoush is too good a player to ignore, with Frankfurt manager Dino Toppmoller summing up his qualities.

ESPNcricinfo understands that Iain Higgins had offered to resign on a number of occasions during his tenure•Peter Della Penna
USA Cricket chief executive Iain Higgins has resigned after just over two years in the role. ESPNcricinfo understands that Higgins handed in his resignation late on Sunday night. The timing of the decision comes just days after USA Cricket announced their first ever bilateral series on home soil against a Full Member nation with a two-T20I-and-three-ODI tour by Ireland set to take place over the Christmas holidays. However, talk has been around for some time that Higgins could potentially be lured back to working for the ICC following the departure of Manu Sawnhey as CEO. Higgins is still highly regarded in Dubai where he worked from 2008 to 2019 as general counsel before taking on the dual role as chief operating officer in 2015.Related

Despite the suddenness of his resignation, ESPNcricinfo understands that Higgins had offered to resign on a number of occasions during his tenure due to regular clashes with members of the USA Cricket board of directors. The tumultuous nature of administrative affairs also has not ceased since USA Cricket took over as the official governing body from the expelled USA Cricket Association (USACA). USACA was banished by the ICC in 2017 with USA Cricket taking over in January 2019.Higgins played a key role in writing the new constitution in his then role as ICC general counsel and chief operating officer prior to coming on board with USA Cricket. However, the constitution which he helped author has been a source of continuing governance issues reminiscent of the USACA era. USA Cricket has not held general elections since February 2020. A lawsuit was filed by two board members against Higgins and five other board members over the voting and membership registration processes. The suit was dismissed in July by a Colorado circuit court judge but elections have still not taken place. The USA Men’s set up also went through a rocky management transition around the time of Higgins’ arrival. Pubudu Dassanayake resigned as coach just months after USA secured ODI status after an internal power struggle. Dassanyake’s replacement, Kiran More, only lasted a few months before going back to commitments in India. James Pamment, who was an assistant under More, stayed on as an interim head coach beginning in October 2019 for three tours before blasting the USA Cricket administration on his way out. Former Karnataka captain and head coach J Arunkumar soon took over the men’s role after Pamment.Things appeared more stable after April when USA Cricket launched its first domestic events following the start of the Covid pandemic. The board launched its inaugural Men’s 50-over Championships on Monday in Texas while events have also been held during the summer for boys Under-19s in April and girls Under-19s in August as well as women’s national championships. The USA Women’s team secured a first-place finish at the ICC Americas T20 World Cup Qualifier last month in Mexico while the men did the same at their corresponding event, concluding with a ten-wicket win over Bahamas in Antigua on Saturday to end the event undefeated.Higgins played a key role in garnering support for USA’s bid to co-host a major ICC event with the West Indies in the next ICC rights cycle from 2024-32, along with rallying support for cricket’s inclusion in the Olympics as early as the 2028 Summer Games to be hosted in Los Angeles. He also recently helped secure USA’s first title sponsor for the men’s and women’s national teams, Sistar Mortgage. However, Higgins continued to face some opposition internally after national team players and domestic participants raised concerns over the fact that all players had to pay their own way to travel to participate in the USA Cricket Men’s 50-over National Championships. The same was true earlier in the year for the U-19 National Championships, further highlighting financial concerns with the organization that were also raised during the most recent AGM in May.
