The New York Yankees placed designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton on the 60-day injured reserve list on Thursday, further moving back his return timeline from dealing with tendinitis in both of his elbows.

Stanton has yet to make his 2025 debut and even missed spring training because of his tendinitis.

About a month ago, Yankees manager Aaron Boone gave an update on Stanton saying that he had started swinging a bat again. Stanton even took batting practice with his teammates just a week ago, but it doesn't appear that he'll be ready to return for some time. With the latest injured reserve move, the earliest he can return to the active roster is May 24.

Stanton was also placed on the 60-day IL to make room on the 40-man roster for outfielder Bryan de la Cruz, who the Yankees claimed off waivers from the Atlanta Braves on Thursday.

The five-time All-Star has dealt with injuries for most of his MLB career, and especially since joining the Yankees in 2018. He hasn't played more than 139 games in a season since his first year in New York.

In 114 games for the Yankees last season, Stanton slashed .233/.298/.475 with 27 home runs and 72 RBIs. He also hit seven postseason home runs during the Yankees' run to the World Series.

The Chicago Cubs officially placed All-Star pitcher Shota Imanaga on the 15-day injured reserve list on Monday, one day after he suffered a hamstring injury during the team's 4–0 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers.

In return, the Cubs called up right-handed pitcher Gavin Hollowell from Triple A.

Imanaga ran to first base in attempt to help for a double play during the sixth inning, and in the process he injured his left hamstring. He was seen holding the back of his left leg. He went out of the game after this.

Imanaga's injury couldn't have come at a worse time for the Cubs as they're already without pitcher Justin Steele for the rest of the season after he underwent an elbow surgery.

Through eight starts this season, Imanaga posted a 2.82 ERA in 44.2 innings pitched. He's produced 34 strikeouts, while batters have 35 hits and 15 runs off of the ace so far.

Following confirmation of his B sample analysis in June, the FA formally charged Mudryk, leaving him facing a potential ban ranging between two and four years if found guilty.

Throughout the ordeal, Mudryk has maintained complete innocence, and even voluntarily undertook a lie detector test which supported his version of events.

Ukrainian sports journalists have theorised that contaminated stem cell treatment administered during international duty may explain the adverse finding, suggesting the injection originated from cattle previously exposed to meldonium.

Ackerman is very Dean Elgar-like in his setup. As the day progressed, he showed it wasn’t just in the aesthetics that was Elgar-like, but in his fight too. He seemed intent on crease occupation, but the only problem was he had to shift gears quickly as the middle order caved in. And once he crossed a half-century, he went into overdrive, with some help from No. 9 Prenelan Subrayen.He stepped out to loft Kuldeep Yadav for six over long-off and rocked back to cut him. He also played a neat, little reverse-sweep off Kuldeep when he drifted the ball away. The real aggression came when Siraj went after him with a few verbal volleys, seemingly frustrated after beating the outside edge a number of times in the middle session.Ackerman drove him imperiously for two boundaries and flicked a leg-stump half-volley for a third when Prasidh misfielded at fine leg. According to a report from Sky Sports, a Bundesliga star is also of interest to Unai Emery’s side, namely Borussia Monchengladbach’s Moritz Nicolas, who wants to move to a top club next summer, given his ambitions to play in Europe.

A number of clubs are in the race for Nicolas, who stands at 6’3, including Villa, who view the colossus as a successor to Martinez, although the Argentina international remains under contract until the summer of 2029.

Nicolas clearly has the quality to be Martinez’s successor, but Aston Villa should look to keep hold of their goalkeeper if possible, given that he is already proven in the Premier League, showcasing his quality by making three saves from inside the box against Wolves last time out.
