Teenage attacker agrees 4-and-a-half year deal to join Newcastle United

Newcastle United have agreed a four-and-a-half year deal to sign an exciting young Turkish player, according to a big update from journalist Yagiz Sabuncuoglu.

Newcastle transfer news

The Magpies have reportedly been given the opportunity to sign AC Milan winger Samuel Chukwueze before the end of the January transfer window. They need funds to help their finances and the Magpies are in the mix to snap him up, along with the likes of Tottenham, Everton and Crystal Palace.

Lille attacking midfielder Hakon Arnar Haraldsson is another player who has been linked with a switch to Newcastle in the near future, even being compared to Luka Modric, such is his talent. The 21-year-old has scored once in the Champions League this season, also finding the net twice in Ligue 1.

While RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko has been mentioned as an option for the Magpies, especially if Alexander Isak moves on any time soon, while Wolves attacking ace Matheus Cunha is seen as an alternative choice to add to Eddie Howe’s attack. He has been a standout player in the Premier League since August, scoring 10 goals.

As is the case with Chukwueze, a separate report has claimed that the Serie A giants could also offer winger Noah Okafor to Newcastle, once again as a way of making much-needed money. The Swiss ace has been limited to only one start in the Champions League this season, so the idea of a fresh challenge could appeal to him.

Newcastle have agreed to sign young attacker

According to Sabuncuoglu on X, Newcastle have “signed” Baran Yildiz on a permanent four-and-a-half year deal, with the 18-year-old currently playing for Genclerbirligi in Turkey, as Paul Mitchell and his team work their magic scouring the market for lesser known talents.

A fee has been agreed between the two clubs after talks this week, with Sport Witness going into more depth about the situation, saying that it may not be easy for the player to gain a work permit. That could lead to him being loaned back to his current club for the time being.

Newcastle United managerEddieHoweapplauds their fans after the match

Newcastle supporters can be forgiven for not knowing much at all about Yildiz, given his tender years and the fact that he isn’t playing in one of Europe’s top five leagues currently.

The teenager is clearly seen as one for the future by the Magpies, rather than a player who is going to come straight in and boost Howe’s side’s chances of securing a top-four finish in the Premier League this season.

Yildiz is yet to play at senior level, highlighting his lack of experience, but he has scored seven goals in 27 appearances for Genclerbirligi’s academy, and has the potential to grow into a force over time.

Newcastle fans will understandably demand to see bigger names come in, too, whether that be in the current or summer window, but signing exciting youth talent is also vitally important for the future of the club. That has been the case with the likes of Lewis Hall, Garang Kuol and Yankuba Minteh in recent years, with the latter joining Brighton for big profit while the former shines week in week out for the Magpies.

Liam Livingstone signals World Cup readiness in thumping England warm-up win

England 163 for 4 (Brook 45*, Stokes 36) beat Pakistan 160 for 8 (Masood 39) by six wicketsLiam Livingstone signalled his World Cup readiness with a comeback cameo of 28 from 16 balls – including one massive six that sailed clean out of the stadium – as England capped their tournament build-up by thrashing Pakistan by six wickets at the Gabba.Livingstone sat out each of England’s preceding 10 T20Is against Pakistan and Australia as he nursed an ankle injury sustained during the Hundred. But in a contest that was reduced to 19 overs a side by rain, he slotted into a middle-order that blazed 12 sixes to Pakistan’s one, to romp to victory with 26 balls to spare.Despite the inconvenience of the fixture – described by David Willey as one they “could have done without”, given they now face a five-and-a-half hour flight to Perth ahead of their tournament opener against Afghanistan on Saturday – England made optimal use of the game-time, not least Ben Stokes, who struggled with the bat against Australia but found his range on this occasion with 36 from 18.Chasing 161 for victory, the contest was sealed in comprehensive fashion by Harry Brook (45 not out from 24 balls) and Sam Curran (33 not out from 14). With Jos Buttler and Moeen Ali both opting not to bat after featuring in the field, the only first-choice batter to miss out was Alex Hales, who made 9 from 13 balls, but Phil Salt, the alternative opening partner to Buttler, managed only 1 from 3 alongside him.For Pakistan, only Shan Masood could match England’s explosive approach with the bat, as he opened the innings in the absence of both Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan, and responded with a hard-hitting knock of 39 from 22 balls. However, from a comfortable 67 for 1 after 6.2 overs, Pakistan lost their next five wickets for 57 to slump to 124 for 6 after 14.4, whereupon only Mohammad Wasim’s 26 from 16 could revive their hopes of a competitive total. England rang the changes in the field with as many as eight bowling options, including a three-over burst from Mark Wood, and two wickets for Willey.Pakistan’s fielding endured an off day, with several dropped chances undermining their prospects, as England completed (albeit in an unofficial capacity) their fifth win in as many completed T20Is, following back-to-back wins to defeat Pakistan 4-3 on their recent tour of the country, and last week’s consecutive eight-run wins over Australia.”I think everything we wanted to get out of today, we did,” Buttler told Sky Sports after the match. “It’s great to see Liam Livingstone back on the field as well after a significant injury, and getting some overs into Chris Jordan as well. He’s coming back from broken finger. Brook and Curran getting some time in the middle as well … we tried a few different things that guys were wanting to experiment with. And this is the perfect time to try to do that.”

UCL giants want him: Chelsea heading for De Bruyne 2.0 with £100k-p/w ace

Todd Boehly has certainly backed up his ambitions since taking over Chelsea in May 2022, signing players left, right and centre for the first-team and academy teams.

The American has dropped over £1.2bn on new additions in his near three-year spell in West London, providing Enzo Maresca with all the ammunition needed to be a success in the Premier League.

Undoubtedly, such erratic dealings have seen former managers struggle, but the Italian has walked into life at Stamford Bridge with ease, ultimately creating a settled side for league and cup.

Chelsea managerEnzoMarescaapplauds fans after the match

Such a layout won’t favour every player, with numerous having to settle for either minutes off the bench or, at worst, struggling to gain any first-team action at all given the huge number of players currently on the books.

One player has fallen into such a category, with the Blues star almost certain for a move away from the Bridge this month, leading to interest from one European outfit.

Chelsea star wanted by Bundesliga giants

According to Sky Germany journalist Patrick Berger, Chelsea midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka is a target for Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund this month, with a potential loan with an option to buy mooted.

The 21-year-old joined the Blues from Aston Villa back in 2022 for a reported £20m, but his time in the capital has been limited to say the least, finding himself on the fringes of the first team squad as a result.

Chelsea's Carney Chukwuemeka in action

He’s only featured for a combined 131 minutes in all competitions during 2024/25, starting just one game in the Europa Conference League – with Chukwuemeka pushing for a move come the end of January.

Berger claimed that Dortmund boss Nuri Şahin is a “big fan” of the Englishman, following in the footsteps of Ian Maatsen, who joined the German side on loan this time last year.

However, should the £100k-per-week earner move permanently to Signal Iduna Park, it may be a huge mistake on the part of Maresca to allow him to leave, potentially replicating the mistake made in allowing a former talent to depart and move to Germany.

Why Chukwuemeka could be a De Bruyne repeat for Chelsea

Attacking midfielder Kevin De Bruyne joined Chelsea way back in January 2012 for a reported £6.7m, before re-joining Belgian side Genk on loan for the remainder of the season.

He would subsequently spend the following campaign on loan at German outfit Werder Bremen, impressing during his temporary stint, registering ten goals and nine assists in just 34 appearances.

Such form catapulted him into the Blues first-team, but after just nine appearances in the first half of the 2013/14 season, he joined Wolfsburg on a permanent basis for around £16.7m – banking a £10m deal profit, but a decade on, the deal looks to be a huge mistake.

De Bruyne starred with increased game time, notching 20 goals and 35 assists – ultimately leading to a £54m transfer back to England to join Manchester City in 2015 – a move that has since allowed him to become one of Europe’s leading playmakers.

The now 33-year-old has since scored over 100 times and registered over 150 assists under Pep Guardiola at the Etihad, helping the Citizens win five consecutive Premier League titles – something that could have happened to the Blues had they kept hold of the Belgian.

Fast-forward over a decade, Chelsea are faced with a similar prospect in the form of Chukwuemeka who, like De Bruyne, may well be heading to Germany after restricted game time at the Bridge.

Chelsea midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka.

The 21-year-old, who’s previously been dubbed a “superstar” talent by scout Jacek Kulig, has never really been given a lengthy run in the side, especially under Maresca, to prove what he’s capable of.

Undoubtedly, given his tender age, he’s in serious need of regular match action to reach the potential he arrived with upon his move, possibly making a loan deal a better option than a permanent one.

Should it be a permanent transfer, Dortmund would be getting themselves yet another top English prospect – potentially following in the footsteps of Jadon Sancho and Jude Bellingham – with Chelsea’s loss undoubtedly their gain.

49ers send Leeds officials to join race to sign "exciting" £5m sensation

Not looking to miss out on a rising star, the 49ers Enterprises have now reportedly sent Leeds United officials to join the race in pursuit of a rising star in Scottish football, who has attracted plenty of interest as of late.

Leeds transfer news

Leeds know all about trying to keep hold of a future star, of course, having failed to prevent Archie Gray’s exit to Tottenham Hotspur in a summer full of exits a few months ago. Now, they’ll want to flip the script and land a young sensation of their own in the transfer market.

Those at Elland Road are in a strong position to convince reinforcements too, given that they now sit top of the Championship in the early race for title glory and subsequent promotion.

When the January transfer window arrives, the Yorkshire club have the opportunity to welcome the additions that could all but seal promotion to the Premier League, before then turning their attention towards future stars for Daniel Farke’s side.

According to Graeme Bailey for The Boot Room, the 49ers have now sent Leeds officials to join the race for Lennon Miller, who has been priced at a minimum £5m by Motherwell as they look to at least benefit from the Scottish sensation’s potential exit.

Leeds have made an "unbelievable signing" who could be sold for big money

The Leeds United ace has already broken records during his short stint at Elland Road.

Those at Elland Road aren’t the only ones interested, however. In fact, a whole host of English clubs are reportedly chasing Miller’s signature, including Manchester United, Newcastle United, Liverpool and Championship rivals Sunderland. With that said, it could be an impressive coup if Leeds managed to welcome the 18-year-old midfielder.

A player who may make up for Gray’s exit, Leeds should go all out to sign Miller if they’re given the opportunity when 2025 arrives.

"Exciting" Miller could make up for Gray's departure

Injuries to midfielders Ethan Ampadu and Ilia Gruev caused quite the headache for Farke, although Ao Tanaka and Joe Rothwell have been brilliant in their absence. A situation which highlighted Leeds’ lack of depth in the middle of the park at the time, Miller’s arrival wouldn’t just be one for the future.

The teenager has starred in Motherwell’s senior side this season, reaching four goals and four assists to prove that he no longer belongs in academy football. Now, he looks destined for his biggest move yet.

As a result of his continued rise over the last year or so, Miller has attracted plenty of interest and praise, with most of that coming from Motherwell boss Stuart Kettlewell, who told reporters as relayed by The Herald earlier this year: “I just think he is a really exciting talent. If he was playing at one of the other clubs I would be waxing lyrical about him as well because I do get excited when you see really good footballers in Scotland.

“It’s brilliant for us all to market and sell the product and the brand in this country. I am absolutely delighted that I feel we have got one of the top guys at his age and somebody that I believe can go on and have a real, real good future in the game.”

CPL 2022 – Russell to join Pollard, Pooran and Narine at Trinbago Knight Riders

Among other major signings, Tallawahs signed allrounder Fabian Allen and opener Brandon King

Andre Russell will join West Indies’ white-ball captain Kieron Pollard and his deputy Nicholas Pooran at Trinbago Knight Riders for CPL 2022. Sunil Narine has also been retained by the franchise, making it a star-studded pre-draft core already. Notably, this will be the first time in the history of the CPL that Russell and Pollard will be playing together for the same franchise. Russell is currently playing for the other Knight Riders franchise – Kolkata – at the IPL in India. In April 2020, Russell had called the Jamaica Tallawahs the “weirdest” team he had ever played for, announcing that the 2020 season would be his last with the side. However, ahead of CPL 2021, he was retained by the franchise. He had a fairly ordinary season with Tallawahs in 2021, managing just 160 runs in ten innings to go with 11 wickets in 31.1 overs. He has now moved from his home franchise to Knight Riders. As for Pooran, he will reunite with his mentor Pollard after having captained Guyana Amazon Warriors to the semi-finals in the most recent CPL. Pollard and Narine aside, fast bowler Jayden Seales, left-arm fingerspinner Akeal Hosein and top-order batter Tion Webster were also retained by Knight Riders. However, they will be without Darren Bravo, as he will link up with his elder brother Dwayne Bravo at St Kitts & Nevis Patriots, who won their maiden title last year. The Bravo brothers had previously played together for Knight Riders.Among other major signings, big-hitting allrounder Fabian Allen went from Patriots to Tallawahs and opening batter Brandon King from Warriors to Tallawahs. Rovman Powell, who walloped a 51-ball T20I century earlier this year, and Kennar Lewis, the latest West Indies T20 globetrotter on the block, were among those retained by Tallawahs.Allrounder Keemo Paul, meanwhile, returned to Amazon Warriors after having been part of St Lucia Kings last season. Left-arm fingerspinner Gudakesh Motie, who made his T20I debut for West Indies in December last year in Pakistan, is the other new signing at Warriors. He will join Shimron Hetmyer, Odean Smith, Romario Shepherd and Chandrapaul Hemraj.Barbados Royals retained Jason Holder and Hayden Walsh Jr, who is currently with Rajasthan Royals as a net bowler in India. Obed McCoy, who was part of the Kings roster last season, will turn out for Royals in the forthcoming season. The left-arm seamer also features in Royals’ squad in the IPL. Wicketkeeper-batter Devon Thomas has also moved from Patriots to Royals. Thomas recently opened the batting with Kennar Lewis for Kandy Warriors in the Sri Lanka Premier League.CPL 2022 is set to kick off on August 30 and the final will be held at the Providence Stadium in Guyana on September 30. This is the first time the CPL final will be held in Guyana and a long-term staging agreement means Guyana will also host the final in 2023 and 2024.The inaugural season of the Women’s CPL, featuring three teams, is set to run alongside the men’s event this year.
